Gone are the days when Somaliland existed in a political grey zone where misrepresentation could simply be ignored or excused. That era is over.

As a recognized state, the Republic of Somaliland must demand the same diplomatic respect afforded to every other nation. Mutual cooperation cannot exist without mutual respect, and if even that basic standard is too difficult for an organization or partner to uphold, then all engagement and cooperation with the Republic should be immediately paused and reviewed.

The now-deleted post I referenced is a perfect example of the problem. At no point did they refer to our country by its proper and official name: The Republic of Somaliland. That omission is not minor, nor should it be normalized. Language matters in diplomacy, legitimacy, and statecraft.

Somalilanders have spent decades building peace, institutions, security partnerships, and democratic governance under our own flag. Any entity seeking to work with us must recognize that reality clearly, publicly, and without hesitation.

صادقت حكومة إسرائيل بالإجماع على التعيينات التالية في السلك الدبلوماسي، بناءً على اقتراح وزير الخارجية غدعون ساعر:
تم تعيين ياهل فيلان سفيرًا لإسرائيل لدى سنغافورة وتيمور الشرقية، وكان شغل سابقًا منصب سفير إسرائيل لدى كينيا وسفير إسرائيل لدى صربيا.
كما تم تعيين أول سفير لإسرائيل لدى صوماليلاند وهو ميخائيل لوتِم، الذي يشغل حاليًا منصب سفير اقتصادي متنقل للقارة الإفريقية، وقد شغل سابقًا منصب سفير إسرائيل لدى كينيا، وأذربيجان، وكازاخستان.
في المرحلة الأولى، سيشغل لوتِم المنصب كسفير غير مقيم في صوماليلاند.

Senior U.S. officials visited Somaliland, meeting with AFRICOM leadership to discuss regional threats and strategy.

Somaliland officials emphasized that “control in the vicinity of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea could significantly reshape the U.S. approach to dealing with the Houthis and Iran.”

They also expressed openness to supporting U.S.—and potentially Israeli—operations against the Houthis terrorists.

Somaliland’s strategic position is increasingly seen as a key operational hub amid rising tensions and concerns over instability in the Strait of Hormuz.
