I’m sure you have seen the video of the 6 year old who shot the teacher in Newport News.

The woman who is holding him and protecting him is exceptional. While this kid verbally abuses the officers and calls her a bi$ch - she holds him, she protects him. Even after what he did until the police finally escort the child away.

This is a tragic situation but the compassion this woman exhibited to this child is worth public accolade.

She was calm. The child was calm with her and followed her directions. She was so brave.

It’s easy to criticize public schools. But when you see someone like this keeping the officers calm, the child calm and herself calm all while providing helpful information - quite frankly - she deserves a medal.

Whoever you are - thank you for being an exceptional human being on such a tragic day.

• Daycare. She says she had a bad experience and would rather not work than put them in daycare again.
• Public school. They homeschool. She says she does not want them “indoctrinated” or “lied to the way that I was.”
• Picky-eater exceptions. They have to try what she cooks; not liking something is allowed, refusing to try it is not.
• Shutting down feelings. Fits are allowed, but they go to their room. She says she will not tell them they cannot be emotional.
• Artificial dyes. No Red 40 or similar food dyes in the house.
• Toy hoarding. They purge toys and stuffed animals about every six months.
• Her son wearing dresses, doing his nails, or wearing makeup. She says he is a boy and those are off limits.
• Politics. No political talk, no protests, nothing government-related while they are kids. She says she only knew who the president was as a child and wants the same for them.
