@bryan_johnson Part 3/4The CDC’s own researchers concluded in 2016 that cocooning is “costly, is plagued with implementation challenges, and has uncertain effectiveness.” Their vaccine advisory panel stated as far back as 2011 that it was “an insufficient strategy to prevent pertussis morbidity
@bryan_johnson Part 2: without ever knowing they’re infected. Research suggests this asymptomatic transmission may actually be the main driver of the ongoing whooping cough resurgence — meaning that requiring Tdap for visitors may not reduce risk to the baby and could theoretically increase it.
@bryan_johnson Science doesn’t support cocooning (Tdap when visiting a newborn). The acellular pertussis vaccine does not prevent infection. It suppresses symptoms. That’s an important distinction. A person who has received the Tdap vaccine can still catch whooping cough and silently spread it
@ShreyaShah22 As long as the person doesn’t have a gene variant on DHCR7 which affects the conversion of 7-dehydrocholesterol to cholecalciferol with UVB sun rays. If they have this SNP, they may not make vitamin D from sunlight.
We're proud to announce the winner of the 2022-2023 Agnes Higgins Award, recognizing distinguished achievement in research, education or clinical services in the field of maternal-fetal nutrition. Congratulations, @aboutKP research scientist, Dr. Erica P. Gunderson!
Vitamin D deficiency is associated with a 25% higher risk of premature death.
People with vitamin D deficiency also had higher death rates from cancer and particularly respiratory diseases.
Very relevant as ~30% of US population is vitamin D deficient (serum <20ng/ml).
