Today President Trump posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Welles Crowther, the 24 year old volunteer firefighter and trader who covered his face with that red bandana and made trip after trip into the South Tower on 9/11.

Survivors said he found the only usable stairwell, carried the injured, directed the rest, then went back up.

He is credited with saving as many as 18 lives before the tower came down.
His body was later found with first responders.

His father gave him that bandana as a boy.
Welles said he was going to change the world with it.
He did.
