@birderpete Hi Pete, glad you connected with the Minkes. I saw my first, NE whales from a boat, off Whitby. That year they were joined by a young Humpback. We saw 9 Minke Whales and the Humpback on the trip. Unforgettable.

@MigrationMatt @mickyg70 @nybirdnews @teesbirds1 We carried out a SeaWatch from Old Nab this morning. 10-20mph northeasterly winds made the sea rough with lots of whitecaps; and in 7hrs we only had 5 sightings which included a breaching whale.

A Minke Whale count from Old Nab Staithes this morning produced a total of EIGHTY ONE Minke Whales, mostly between Old Nab and Kettleness. @nybirdnews @teesbirds1 @MigrationMatt

@petergwyn3 @SteveRoutledge8 @AlastairMclay @nybirdnews @WhitbyNats @BirdGuides Beware, all my big counts in previous years and this year have been in ideal conditions in still overcast conditions. When Matt and I had 53 the breeze picked up at 10am then numbers dropped off dramatically.
The wind is due to pick up tomorrow.

@MigrationMatt @nybirdnews @teesbirds1 Hi Matt, yes long slow scans from 0-100 degrees. Sea state was 0-1 perfect light. I was wondering about co-ordinated watches. Problem is lack of observers between Staithesand Scarborough there are no experienced shore-based observers with scopes. Didn’t see any Whales off Boulby.
