The US has flown one nuclear reactor in space—SNAP-10A in 1965. More than sixty years later, @AntaresNuclear would like to make it two.

The nuclear microreactor startup announced today that it won a $161M DoD contract to advance nuclear power for space—which Antares says is the largest current DoD space nuclear award.

.@PortalSpaceSys CEO @JeffThornburg wanted to avoid the headaches founders are facing trying to reach orbit. So he bought a whole rocket.

While Thornburg said Portal is expected to take up about half of the @SpaceX Falcon 9—for its Motus Via Sol 2028 mission—it’s working with launch integrator @maverick_space to sell the other half to customers looking for rideshare opportunities in a turbulent market.
