We could walk into our neighbor's unlocked houses and hang out until they got home if shit got too heated at home and we needed to

Any Mom was EVERYBODY'S Mom

Any Dad was EVERYBODY'S Dad

That our schools were literal Breakfast Clubs and while we kicked each others' asses we were also ALWAYS there for each other - no matter what, to the death

We had no school shootings, yet we all had guns

We had no terrorists

That we were BORN during the bicentennial and raised to respect our elders and defend our Country at all costs

That we were high as hell all day in school but still did our homework, went to practice, graduated

That we were high as hell all weekend but still went to our part-time jobs, were home by curfew and dragged our asses to church on Sunday

AND THAT WAS OKAY WITH THE ADULTS because we STILL DID WHAT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO DO

We could get caught with pot, blow, mesc, alcohol, etc. and the cops would confiscate it and send you home

We had no curb on our freedom at ALL

We were allowed to be stupid and take risks so we could LEARN FROM IT

We never saw color - we had a curiosity about other cultures and appreciated our differences and if something threatened our home, we joined together to repel it as ONE

We were boys

We were girls

REAL ONES

Our pre-marital sex involved secrecy, violence, and often occurred outside

We knew how to not get pregnant

It also involved looking over our shoulder for lurking serial killers

We had no autism or anxiety and our "safe space" came with us wherever we went

We had REAL FOOD, clean air, fresh water in swimming holes to dive into from cliffs, we camped, we listened to music, we hung out IN THE SAME ROOM

And then there's the accomplishments:

That the DEVICES YOU'RE TYPING ON WERE MADE BY GEN X

That every bit of tech you use was DEVELOPED BY GEN X

That we INVENTED THE START-UP, MUSIC VIDEOS, BLOGGING, BROUGHT DOWN THE BERLIN WALL, had the BEST CARS, (and DADS that made sure we knew how to do stuff), we invented INDEPENDENT FILM and ALTERNATIVE MEDIA, we are the BRIDGE between analog and digital, we are the DIYers, we're the ones securing your PRIVACY, we started the FITNESS craze, the MARTIAL ARTS craze, the GREEN movement (Before it was hijacked by C.H.A.O.S.), we ACCEPTED OUR ROLE AS STEWARDS OF WHAT WE INHERITED AND WE DIDN'T JUST CARE FOR IT, we IMPROVED IT

AND BY 2018 GEN X ACCOUNTED FOR OVER HALF OF ALL GLOBAL LEADERSHIP

Nothing ever done from this point FORWARD will rival our last GREATEST GENERATION

We were saints, we were sinners, we were daredevils, we were ninjas, we were champions, we minded our own business but none would hesitate to step-in to defend an innocent or help a stranger

We still knew RIGHT FROM WRONG

The world you live in was FORGED by us as WE were forged
