Alberta has more active COVID-19 cases than Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia combined.
This is what happens when 60 UCP Government MLAs abandon the very people that elected them during a public health crisis. #ableg#abhealth
And not one school for Calgary among them. West Calgary desperately needs a high school. The UCP has done very little to progress this file. Instead, they sat silent as CCSD received far less than other urban boards for infrastructure.
#ABEd update, Wed. Sept 29, 10am

Calgary needs schools. This budget has no new Public or Catholic schools for students in the city of Calgary. We know that students, staff and families deserve quality schools in growing neighbourhoods.
We’re fighting for the things that matter to you! #yyc#abed#ableg

6/Most significant, the programs slated for cuts allow some students to succeed in a system that is otherwise stacked against them. Access to the IB program in marginalized communities allows many less privileged kids to go on to post-secondary, often with scholarships.
5/Further, failure to partner with municipalities & private sector to provide the buildings and/or infrastructure for schools is another issue. Allowing school structures to be built during community (re)development would alleviate capital costs, yet there’s no provincial desire.
4/Instead of building new public high schools to serve students, successful programs will be cut in some existing schools to make physical space for students being bussed in from other communities. This stems from provincial failure to invest in the building of schools over time.
