I don’t think the second or third year of his contract is going to kill you, but we are already seeing frightening escalation in AAV so cap space will become precious again in several years. That extra $5mm+ on a 39-year-old may cost you.

My answer is that they didn’t want to block Eklund as they view this as a valuable year for him to learn from some vets. Next year, Palms is up, year after, Schenn; vintage Palms = Eklund’s upside.

@utahmammoth One of the best islanders in the last 30 years. Honestly, he’s in the tier of captain just below Potvin. I really hope that they add his name alongside one of my all-time favorite Islanders, John Tonelli. Obviously, JT was amazing. Anders w/could’ve fit in on the Dynasty teams.
