When you enter medical school on a conveyor belt of jobs it feels terrifying to reach the end and not have the ‘next one’ sorted. Thankfully have a fellowship but this is a real nationwide issue.
I am really worried that so many of our registrars are reaching CCT with no clear consultant jobs to go to.
There is so much work to be done, and yet it feels like there is so little funding that no one is creating new consultant posts in general paediatrics at the moment.
As a clinician, it was really interesting to step in to a strategic and operational role at HMIMMS. Definitely prefer the idea of being on the ground but so much learning!
If you're a 50+ yr old doctor who graduated med school with no debt, lived in hospital accommodation during training, & has paid off your mortgage on a house you bought for £100k,
you don't have the right to dismiss the financial difficulties faced by younger colleagues
