Great to see @SadiqKhan making the case for bringing cross-Channel services to Stratford International.
This would be a game changer for local communities, increasing connectivity, boosting jobs, and attracting investment.
Stratford is one of Europe’s great regeneration success stories. It’s ready for its next chapter - European rail links.
I’m proud to say I’m working with the government to deliver new cross-Channel trains from East London. The benefits would be felt far beyond our city.

Families who lose a loved one to mesothelioma or another occupational dust disease will get the same government compensation as sufferers, Social Security and Disability Minister Sir Stephen Timms has announced.
At present dependants can receive less if the sufferer dies before a claim is completed: around £10,700 on average, against £17,700 for sufferers. The new rules close that £7,000 gap.
Timms said families "deserve our support, not a system that treats them as an afterthought". The regulations are due to take effect on 31 October, subject to Parliament.

When people voted Labour in 2024, they wanted the sort of policies @andyburnham announced today. Labour is on the side of ordinary working people and I'll work with Andy and his government to make sure Newham benefits from this strong, principled Labour government

⚖️ Labour MP Stephen Timms has announced changes to deliver fairer compensation for families of people who die from mesothelioma and other dust-related diseases.
The reforms are intended to address inequalities in the compensation system and ensure bereaved families receive greater financial support following the loss of a loved one to work-related disease.
The move is about fairness for victims, dignity for their families and recognising the devastating legacy of occupational illness.

Thank you to @stephenctimms for taking the time to visit the @FalklandsGov stand at the @UKLabour Party Conference and for your continued support for the Falkland Islands. #LPC26 🇫🇰🇬🇧
This is very welcome news from @patmcfaddenmp, Secretary of State for Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). We know young people with a learning disability are disproportionately likely to not have a job, not have access to training or be let down by the education system.
This morning @PlashetSchool I met the Maths department which secured the 2026 PTI Bernice McCabe prize for leadership for “making significant strides in improving teaching and learning of maths as meaningful, engaging and accessible” https://t.co/VKH7jETd6p. Congratulations!
As of today, @stephenctimms has become only the 6th person in the history of the Labour Party to serve a cumulative total of 14 years as a member of the UK government, following Christopher Addison, Clement Attlee, AV Alexander, James Callaghan and Margaret Beckett
What an amazing day at Newham Mayor’s Street Party 2026! 🎉❤️
A beautiful celebration of the diversity of Newham, bringing together people from so many different communities, cultures and backgrounds.
This is what Newham is about — different communities coming together as one.
I was in Silvertown this week to visit Gee & Ivan at The Tate Institute
Built as the social club for sugar refinery workers. It was a valued community space but has been empty for years
REinsTate are restoring the building in a sustainable way, bringing it back to the community
