A quote often attributed to Friedrich Nietzsche…
"Do not fall victim to excessive idealism and believe that telling the truth will bring you closer to people. People love and reward those who can soothe them with illusions. Since ancient times, humanity has only punished those who speak the truth. If you want to stay among people, share their illusions. The truth is spoken only by those who are ready to depart."
we pray for success but rarely talk about what success can do to our circle and relationships. the jealousy, envy, entitlement and resentment usually don't show up until you start doing better. success changes how people see you and makes people treat your progress differently.
Adam Grant on lifelong learning:
“A key to lifelong learning is to see everyone you meet as a potential teacher. Each interaction is a chance to question old assumptions and gain new perspectives. Collecting lessons from others is the fastest way to fill gaps in your experience.”
My therapist asked me what I would do with my time if no one needed anything from me for a full week. I said I had no idea. She asked if that felt like freedom or like panic. Panic, I said, immediately. She said, when empty time feels like a threat, it means your identity is entirely built on being needed. And that is a fragile thing to build a life on. I drove home and looked at my diary and noticed how little of it was actually mine.
“The effect of life in society is to complicate and confuse our existence, making us forget who we really are by causing us to become obsessed with what we are not.”
--Chuang Tzu
"What threatens us today is fear. .. Our danger is the forces in the world today which are trying to use man’s fear to rob him of his individuality, his soul, trying to reduce him to an unthinking mass."
—William Faulkner
study yourself. your patterns. habits. compulsions. trauma. anxieties. insecurities. addictions. once you see them, the unconscious becomes conscious. and the moment you know what they are and how they control you, you awaken. you become unstoppable.
The moment that judgment stops through acceptance of what it is, you are free of the mind. You have made room for love, for joy, for peace.
~ Eckhart Tolle
“Once you realize that all comes from within, that the world in which you live has not been projected onto you but by you, your fear comes to an end.”
~ Nisargadatta Maharaj
In deep sleep you are not a self-conscious person, yet you are alive. When you are alive and conscious, but no longer self-conscious, you are not a person any more.
