A LONG explanatory 🧵 on ICU 'capacity' & 'flow' in Saskatchewan & why we need MULTIPLE interventions to avoid compromised care for ALL #SK citizens & triage.
I'm going to use an analogy of ICU capacity = bathtub. Patients = water. Health care system = house.

Great news that NACI will update guidelines tomorrow to allow AZ vaccine for persons 65+ across Canada. Real world data for AZ vaccine in persons 65+ shows great efficacy. Initial recommendations were made due to lack of persons 65+ in phase 3 trial, NOT lack of efficacy.
Home stretch!

I hope I've communicated the kind of @CMA_Docs President I'd be, one that amplifies your voice and speaks truth to power. We can change healthcare together.

In my 7 days on one of our (now 12!) non ICU #COVID19 units, I admitted 58 patients for COVID rule out, of whom 50 tested positive. Two died (DNR), 2 went to hospice, and 5 went to the ICU. That is… not my typical gen med service week. Following, some clinical observations.

Our Chief Medical Officer, @drsusanshaw, wrote a letter to you...the people of #Sask. Pls take a moment & read it. "...social distancing, following all isolation & gathering restrictions, & washing your hands regularly does cut the transmission numbers drastically..." - Dr. Shaw
We have wrapped up. The real heroes are those providing services in the inner city, and the amazingly resilient people who access them. 36 hours is not 365 days. Eyes, minds and hearts have been opened. The reality demands action.

Thanks to all 10 of our #SanctumsurvivorYXE survivors. Your experiences and insights will be invaluable to us as we all advocate for more services to those who need it most. Thank you all for making yourselves available, vulnerable and malleable - I am in awe.
My body hurts in places I didn’t know existed. But my heart is well. Thank you @SanctumYXE#sanctumsurivoryxe for an incredible 36-hour homeless experience. You are the true survivors and inspirers, and you are making a difference. #HIV/AIDS
Theo and I awake early as people start their days at the YWCA. Very grateful for a warm, dry place to sleep last night, but I’ve really seen how if I had to live in shelters and with this level of uncertainty with a child it would be so draining and exhausting #sanctumsurvivoryxe
#SanctumSurvivorYXE Update: Was a cold, wet & windy night. Lots of foot traffic in the park throughout the night. Felt really vulnerable. Not much rest was had. On the move by 6am. Can’t imagine this as an everyday reality.
