@IDSAInfo@CDCgov With all due respect to an organization that otherwise does good work, I think "deeply concerning" is weak sauce.
If the IDSA will not speak out about these and a number of other documents which were taken down then who will? Certainly not the CDC.

@ABsteward@JAMAInternalMed@DrToddLee Looks like the patients that received pip-tazo were different in many significant ways than the patients that received cefepime before they ever received a dose.
They tried to adjust for this in many ways, but seems residual confounding may contribute?
@drtimothyli@NatureComms A couple of similar studies have shown that for LRTIs the rmPCRs don't seem to convince docs to do anything differently regardless the result. PNA panels don't seem to be any better than RVPs.
I think they will eventually find their niche, but certainly not for routine use.
@ABsteward Interesting, but the populations were pretty darn different. Certainly not an apples to apples comparison and maybe not even apples to oranges. Particularly as not uncommonly a single dose AG is thrown at "UTIs" that prob aren't UTIs.
New CDC MMWR report: Essentially genetically identical Mycobacterium abscessus subspecies massilienseinfections following stem cell injections at different clinics in Mexico prompted an outbreak investigation.

If you were going to get a game for teaching infectious diarrhea (GuessPoo) would you rather have a copy with the iconic Guess Who? style board for full tactile experience or a smaller/cheaper card based version for teaching on the go.
📢Hey fans of single dose IM aminoglycosides for UTI...
Anyone got a copy of: Rocca Rossetti S. Single-shot vs conventional therapy with amikacin for treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections: a multicenter study. Chemioterapia. 1986 Dec;5(6):394-9. PMID: 3802301.
Prior to expanding Coccidioides prophylaxis, we performed a safety study to assess whether there were any serious adverse patient outcomes from use of fluconazole in our kidney transplant recipients. (1/5)🧵
