@Backatju@iamnotlester I think loosing the cops will be more difficult but still possible so it makes the game feel more immersive and challenging in a good way
@GazzettaFerrari Can someone explain how he got that penalty at Spa?
There must be some reasoning going into the FIA’s decision but I don’t see how he could genuinely have avoided George.
@DJSnM I think they intentionally tried to cancel out a spin with one engine, for future redundancy (to make a catch work of only 1 engine is available).
That’s probably whey they initiated the spin on purpose.
@mcrs987 Could it be that they did that to test if they could cancel out the ships spin with one engine? That would allow them to do the catch with 1 (in case one fails).
That would decide if they ignite 3 or 2 engines during landing.
@CSI_Starbase This has me thinking they’ll need two engines to land (catch) as there is no other way to keep roll-control right?
I feel like the dance she did wouldn’t be a really useful maneuver for a catch?
@sintropia_acc That’s possible but I think it’s more likely the key issue was feeding enough fuel into the engines. Severe turbulence in the propellant can lead to gas bubbles in the engine. Maybe the engine RUD is due to it not shutting down in time.
@Mookafish I assumed the main issue was ullage as many healthy engines failed to reignite.
But it’s interesting that the booster turned in the wrong direction.
Maybe the RVac they lost had low thrust from the beginning and therefore the booster got pushed asymmetrically.
@mcrs987 My guess is that the main issue is ullage.
They have to feed 20+ tons (I think) of propellant down to the engines during the flip.
So the RUD could have been due to propellant instability (e.g. gas bubbles) after most engines already veiled to start in the first place.
@rbarsom2@maxxedgoof@pjj19031903@_AsiwajuLerry They’re happy because the rocket performed well, the only reason it exploded is because rockets can’t stand on water and fall over. Had they attempted a landing on land (which they will do in the future) it wouldn’t have fallen over and could have been reused.
@ItsDocEther Might have to do with the gravity turn direction.
For the booster it’s always optimal to turn towards the single grid fin side as it has to return in the same orientation.
Could be that for aero / structural reasons, HLS’s gravity turn direction will be inverted. (Just a guess)
