A new paper led by @cesearle presents a lack of evidence for #cheetah presence in #Tanzania’s Selous-Nyerere landscape. Based on spoor & camera trap surveys conducted from 2020 to 2022 in addition to enquiries with PA management staff & tourism operators:

New paper led by WildCRU’s Charlotte Searle reveals important insight into spotted #hyaena population densities, interaction with other carnivores & human impacts. The valuable contribution of students in camera trap data analysis is also highlighted.

New study out! We look at research trends ans biases in African large carnivore population assessments, and identify opportunities for future research and inclusion of researchers from host countries https://t.co/1iVUdAmSca
Thrilled to have this paper out, with a team led by @Strampelli. It looks at research trends and biases in population assessments of large #carnivores, and highlights the lack of representation of authors from range countries in many studies @WildCRU_Ox https://t.co/RXPRqjNNQf
@AmyDickman4@AdamHartScience @knowmiun @fishvetmj Actually, you know what - @knowmiun, the answer is two lines below what you highlighted. Hum actvt slightly higher in GRs than NP bc it is very high in vacant blocks. In active blocks actually slightly lower than NPs. All the info is there, it just requires actually reading it.
@AmyDickman4@AdamHartScience @knowmiun @fishvetmj Sure, I'd be happy to explain why @knowmiun's interpretation of our findings, and of those from Craig's and Henry's work, is incorrect. Not on a Twitter thread though - I'm in the field trying to actually address these issues, so please reach out via email.
Unique strawberry #leopard in Selous - while processing images, our team found a female leopard who appears to be a strawberry colour morph. Learn more https://t.co/lZxd7OvwUL
This ecological study is carried out in collaboration with @FZS_Frankfurt, TAWA, @tzparks and @tawiritz
Counting cats - in our latest blog post Lion Landscapes researchers @Strampelli and @cesearle present one of the first applications of a novel method that can be useful for the assessment and monitoring of lion populations.

Congratulations to Charlotte Searle @cesearle, our most recent WildCRU graduate to successfully complete her viva. We’re pleased to have been able to celebrate with you, albeit from a distance.
Wonderful to have this out there, especially open-access. #Cheetah have been surprisingly understudied across much of their range, so good to have this insights from @ruaha_npark and wider landscape. Congrats @Strampelli@cesearle@Alexlobora & others!

@UPSHelp_UK Hi, my package delivery keeps being delayed. Tried to change my delivery location through your portal so I can just pick it up myself (it's fairly nearby & urgent), but system keeps crashing. I called cust ser but was put on hold and then hung up on. Any help, please?
@katzyna@s_pooley@dilysroe@ConsActionTrust@rosie__cooney @PaulJoh93195432 @IUCNSULi I personally think both hunting and non hunting orgs should fund conservation. The insinuation that any funding, let alone <1%, biases our scientific outputs should concern us all as impartial scientists.
https://t.co/rECCpS04Ux @OxZooDept 's reponse to unfounded insinuations appearing in the media last week. Such low-blow attempts at miscrediting opinions through blatantly false accusations have no place in a scientific debate, regardless of one's personal views on the topic.
@NikiRust @MSFarhadinia@dilysroe@rosie__cooney@ruahacarnivores@AdamHartScience @DrTWyatt P.S. It's a beautiful cold rainy Saturday & as a result I won't be on twitter anymore today. I know you have a lot of experience working in TH areas, so happy to continue exchanging viewpoints via email ([email protected]) next week if you'd like. Have a good weekend!
@NikiRust @MSFarhadinia@dilysroe@rosie__cooney@ruahacarnivores@AdamHartScience @DrTWyatt I have answered this point in my previous tweet about our primary aim being to stop misinformation. I am also aware of potential negative impacts of TH, it's addressed in the blog post you mentioned having seen (I think? Apologies if I'm mistaken)
@MSFarhadinia @NikiRust @dilysroe@rosie__cooney@ruahacarnivores@AdamHartScience @DrTWyatt Not by us. I have always maintained that the discussion is about the import ban (which is ofc aimed at disrupting TH industry in host countries). African countries should do what they consider best; this goes without saying for me. Cannot speak for those the want to end all of TH
@NikiRust Let's not beat arund the bush - UK TH import ban is a result of public thinking it will help African wildlife. We disagree, thinking it willhave the opposite effect, and want to make the public aware of this. That's it. We are not discussing African countries' internal policies.
@NikiRust I agree, they should. If, however, I believe they are basing decisions on factually inaccurate information (or lies - e.g. TH=poaching), it's my right (and possibly duty, given my/our roles as science communicators) to try and ensure public is fully informed when making decisions
