@ZipcarUK @Zipcar Gutted that you’re considering pulling out of London. This is an excellent service that I depend on. And always love driving your EVs and supporting cleaner transport. What can we do to help keep this service running?

Zipcar, the @Avis-owned short-term rental car club, is closing down in the UK. The company blames high electricity costs for its EVs (plus London will apply for the first time its congestion tax on EVs from Jan 2026).
This is what Zipcar told London Assembly earlier this year:
I love bumboo - plastic free, super soft 100% bamboo loo rolls delivered to your door, and a tree planted for every box! Use my referral link to get a discount now :) https://t.co/cYLUI2cQ7q
I'm so gutted. The EV garage is quoting £1.8k to fix, but he doesn't trust them to know if this is reasonable (they are HEVRA members). The battery had a high 120k mileage but 12 bars. He did a lot of research but what else should he have done? Any ideas how to help? Thx
@EVUKexpert@QuentinWillson @evauk @FullyChargedUK (Sorry to post this publicly but I'm stuck). Having been a passionate promoter of EVs to all friends & family, one finally bought a Used Nissan Leaf. Within 3 days it was stuck in 'turtle mode'. The dealer won't return his £6k.
Desperately disappointing news for #Wandsworth residents and others who are keen on a habitable planet.🧵

The environment is where we live.

We’ve launched a consultation to shape the 2030 phase-out of the sale of new petrol and diesel cars, which will:
✅ Support jobs and industry
✅ Encourage car manufacturers to invest in the UK
✅ Help more people switch to electric
All part of our Plan for Change.
WOW – The IEA has boosted its latest renewable forecast by another 16%
Just 9 months ago, in January 2024, its Renewables 2023 report forecast 3,200GW of capacity – mainly wind and solar – would be built around the world during the five years 2024-2028.
Now, in Renewables 2024, it's significantly increased that forecast, to 3,700GW over the same five years – and a massive 5,500GW by 2030.
It's now forecasting two-thirds more renewable capacity being built than just two years ago.

Are there any green businesses queuing up to offer alternative jobs for this community? You’d think there would be a queue.

@ZipcarUK You seem to have changed your policy to have 100% fully electric zipcars by 2025, to 2030. And just recently you've invested in 100 new Nissan Jukes - presumably not 100% electric. Can you explain the reasons behind your change in policy? Thanks.

@StopBSCampaign Can you help with these queries I had from 'whatabouters'? Insurance on EVs is very high because 1. if it breaks down, you have to replace the whole car; 2. EVs break down more than Ice cars; 3. High EV premiums are making ICE premiums higher too!
