Young English identity is more diverse than the old – it can also be more invisible https://t.co/N1CyYuJWin
“accessibility is normally used to look at how amenable a space is for people with physical disabilities – but what about whether people from low-income groups can’t access it?” https://t.co/83CjozKN3p
@PhlegmAnglaise @afc@VICEUK@FGRFC_Official Totally agree @PhlegmAnglaise - when you watch what is going on with sports it starts to build a picture of wider society attitudes...
Football is often used to represent England's national pride.
Yet, it also represents gender inequality.
Introducing @AFC settling the score.

@NOWGallery @GurinderC In the film, when asked about identity, this lady states she prefers 'Scottish Pakistani to British'
A much rarer situation in England for young and BAME people. #stretchtheflag#identity#gurinderchadha
So much good stuff in @NOWGallery exhibition
Still from @GurinderC film 'I'm British But...' on #britishbhangra and 'a healthy thriving pluralism' of multiculturalism

I’ve been talking to team @StretchTheFlag about their vision for an antidote to nationalism and wanted to share what being English could mean to me. I was brought up to believe that being #English was about high standards, hard work and aspirations. This is my #England
@catmummylondon@PenguinUKBooks@afuahirsch@catmummylondon That is one definition of a national identity, it is an ethnic one. We can also have an identity that relates to the future not the past. Here's an essay on Scotland, raises interesting thoughts on usefulness of a strong civic identity:https://t.co/0kleobaREX
Here is Freya Laing @stretchtheflag on why she has started this campaign & how she hopes it can make St George's Day 2019 into a day where everybody feels invited

@mcjwalsh@sundersays@mcjwalsh Thank you for your thoughts. No one person can vouch for how people feel about an entire national identity or it's symbol- we need a wide conversation. Please do share your view / experience of England at #stretchtheflag
@BrightonBTFC @JYDenham @NewStatesman @BrightonBTFC everyone, everywhere, has multiple identities.
There is a space for an cultural identity, a family identity, a civic identity. It is not about all being the same, it is about celebrating difference and #englandforall
Thank you @JYDenham for this article on the campaign.

@BrightonBTFC @C4Ciaran @BrightonBTFC this is a project for everyone that wants a more connected and respectful national identity. It is about stretching what 'English' means so that we can feel unfiied by the term, not divided.
Scotland strives for a national identity that is 'strong, fair and inclusive'.
The #SNP have set out an alternative to #UniversalCredit.
Knowing what your country will and will not tolerate is a very secure place to be.

@realhansard@sundersays Scotland, Wales and Ireland already have identities that are part of the national imagination, discussed by politicians and public figures alike. A lot of people (young and BAME especially) in England lack this, adding to a lack of place.

@sundersays “For all the plaudits for Gareth Southgate as a modern English sporting leader, in a very stylish waistcoat too, he can hardly be left to reshape our national identity on his own.”
Very much agree! Thanks for the support @sundersays
