@TheSecretAcct Opportunity cost. Taking potentially 9 months out of work is a bigger step back if your building a professional career etc. You'll always have more kids if you start at 20 rather than 30!

@fmk_RoI That shares charge isn't exceptional if it happens every year. I think it's not "underlying" but they've used the wrong words and classified it badly in the P&L to make it look less bad.

The best option is to merge NI and income tax to stop people thinking NI pays specifically for anything.
