Yotsuba is classic! I read it in English when I was younger, and I have more recently been reading the original Japanese~ It’s such a nice read.

よつばと! (Yotsuba&) is one of the most recommended mangas for Japanese learners. I found the French version at the library and just got around to reading it.

Not bothered at all. Language is defined by those who use it, and it is always changing. If the majority of native speakers use a structure consistently and with no loss of meaning, why should that not become the new standard? 🤷🏽‍♀️

On a scale of 1 (not bothered) to 10 (very bothered) how bothered are you by the use of non-standard sentence constructions in your mother tongue which sound natural to native speakers but are grammatically incorrect?

@sun79297149 In English, you could say they’re a MacGyver if they can solve problems or throw things together, and there’s also an expression “jack of all trades but master of none”. I like เป็ด better haha. In Korean, you can call them 만능 (萬能)

Wholesome metro experience! So I’m my way home from work, and I’m on this one train for almost an hour, so I take out my tablet to do some Chi ese reading practice. A lady is sitting next to me, and she asks what level I am, what app I’m using, etc. and she talks #langtwt (1/2)

@langdinish Hilokal has languages all over the place, but since it is a Korean app, it started our heavily weighted toward Asian languages. Depending on the time of day, different languages are more or less represented, which I guess happens on other apps as well!

I often joke about how my degree in East Asian studies is “useless” because it isn’t really something with a really obvious path, and I don’t work in the field. However, it was useful in giving me skills and knowledge that I needed to get me where I am now, so 🤷🏽‍♀️

@mellosemcor I think it becomes difficult but not impossible. Ultimately it’s about learning to control and move your throat, lips, etc. in new ways. Like any other physical skill, it can be learned, even if not always perfectly.
