The technology of this Chinese company (Orient Sundar, 奥润顺达) is actually super interesting: they've developed full "passive-house" systems where houses/apartments are so well insulated from heat or cold that they require virtually no heating or cooling, even in harsh climates.

They've actually developed an entire residential compound with that technology in Gaobeidian, a city next to Beijing, which gets extremely cold in winter (as low as −23.3°C) and one resident interviewed in Chinese media said that her flat stays at about 23°C all year with "no need to heat the house in winter or turn on the air conditioner in summer" (https://t.co/0QNCBfjTHa).

Funnily, one problem they've had with the technology in China is that they underestimated how much heat was naturally produced inside homes, because most Chinese families live with their elderly parents who cook three meals a day at home: due to this, the flats generated around 40% more internal heat than their models initially assumed (https://t.co/7JChdeQlBq).

In other words, with this technology, the home heating system becomes grandma's cooking 😅

⛔️“Slava Ukraini” was a fascist slogan formally used by the nationalist underground of the OUN and UPA—movements whose history includes collaboration with Nazi Germany, complicity in the Holocaust, and responsibility for the mass murder of Poles.

OUN members answered with “Glory to the Heroes!” or “Glory to the Leader!”—the latter referring to Bandera. Under the prescribed ritual, they shouted the slogan with an arm raised in a salute deliberately reminiscent of the fascist style.

The photo below shows a typical newspaper published under the German occupation of Ukraine.

This particular issue, titled 'New Life,' came out in Koziatyn, Vinnytsia region, on October 23, 1943.

Right at the top: “Slava Ukraini.”
Below it comes talk of the “victorious advance” of the German “liberators,” followed by rhetoric about “Zhydy (Jews)” supposedly taking over Ukraine—the familiar poison of the Judeo-Bolshevik conspiracy myth.

That history cannot simply be scrubbed away because the slogan later acquired a different political meaning. “Glory to Ukraine” carries historical baggage stained by the blood shed under Nazism and by Ukrainian collaborators who served it. Nor does that history magically disappear because Zelenskyy, who is Jewish, repeats the phrase.

So whenever a liberal, progressive, or leftist casually types “Slava Ukraini,” perhaps they should first do something progressives usually claim to value: historical inquiry.

Slogans have histories.
Pretending not to know them does not make those histories disappear.

La clave del mecanismo es el desplazamiento del enemigo. En lugar de señalar al fondo de inversión o al banco, se señala al vecino con dos pisos. Así, la expropiación se presenta como justicia social, y el verdadero beneficiario —el capital concentrado— queda fuera del foco.

This is a very interesting policy idea: As he campaigns for re-election, Brazil's President Lula da Silva has offered a debt relief program for low-income families.

The idea is that the government will buy defaulted debts of up to 10,000 reais (c. $1900 USD) of working-class families.

Banks know they probably won't get back most of this debt, because it's in default, so the government will buy it for big discounts of 90+%.

Some cynical critics are portraying this as a supposed bailout of banks, but that's not true at all. The government will not pay the face value of the debt, which is of course what the bank would want. (This is what the US government often does in its bailouts, which benefit creditors, not debtors.)

Instead, in this proposal, the Brazilian government will hold auctions where creditors sell the defaulted debt with a huge haircut of 90+%. Then, after buying the debt, the Brazilian government will forgive it.

At the same time, Lula has also proposed a ban on online gambling websites, which aims to further reduce the growing levels of debt among working-class families.
