Assistant Professor at University of Birmingham working on exploding transients. part time stand up comedian. sometimes dogs let me cohabit with them 🐶
@KnKsnKarn@vishakhakapoo12@speakshoutroar@DC_Gurugram Sir, I see zero evidence of a bite. People care for them with personal money. They are community animals. Similarly, if you dont like trees, you dont have a right to have them removed. If you care so much, please hold the MCG accountable for not vaxxing/caring for dogs.
The SC ruling is barbaric and the AWBI is selling their soul to make up for ignoring ABC rules. We need to repeal draconian laws and focus on vaccinating and neutering and hold MC's accountable #JusticeForIndianDogs#BeKindToAllKinds#BeKindToAllAnimals
Paper Day, led by grad student in my group: Erin Hayes. The paper estimates time delays and lensing magnifications for strongly lensed Type Ia supernovae using a combination of ground and space-based data to get sub 5% H0 from LSST+HST follow-up: https://t.co/J2kCAmqzMA
Today’s visuals of dog protests. People of Delhi love their stray animals like their own family members. We would not allow anyone to seize them and throw them into hellholes. Do not test the patience of the public, you may find out who the actual “silent majority” is.
It's an important post. its also important to add that the phrase "dog lover" is not an empty one. It encapsulates a lot of individuals, NGOs who have put their time and money into sterilisation, vaccination - and its the MCD that failed. This order hides the failure.
the failure of govt centers to enact ABC rules is what led to this state. We need a successful sterilise + vaccinate program which costs very little compared to this horrible set of concentration camps which are a money sink and set to be disease centers.
@CNNnews18#SaveDelhiDogs 60 days and less than 5cr to sterilise and vaccinate all of them & let them live out their days in peace. Setup a system where breeders and pet owners can't just abandon dogs helpless on the streets.
Help prevent strays instead of sending them to die!!
And this is how the situation is "controlled". Animal welfare - while not perfect - is an initiative taken by many with great physical, financial and emotional pain. Where's the trust in system if those meant to protect are mismanaging the MCD and causing mass death.
5 Countries that tackled the stray dog issue humanely. Lessons India must heed:
Portugal – Nationwide sterilisation & vaccination drives, coupled with adoption incentives. Euthanasia banned for healthy animals.
Netherlands – Achieved “zero stray” status without killing a single dog through mass sterilisation, microchipping, strict breeding laws, and heavy fines for abandonment.
Turkey – Stray dogs vaccinated, neutered, and released back into their territories with food and shelter stations across cities.
Chile – Mobile veterinary units provide free spay/neuter services in rural and urban areas, making prevention accessible to all.
Italy – Regional laws forbid killing strays; dogs are housed in municipal shelters until adoption, with public campaigns to encourage responsible pet ownership.
These countries recognised that compassion and control are not opposites. Humane solutions require patience, resources, and respect for life - not mass culling disguised as ‘protection.’

Job opportunity alert: Hiring a postdoc to work with myg group and I on time-domain cosmology with the Vera C. Rubin Observatory and synergies with other stage-IV surveys as part of the UKRI/ERC project NGSNCOSMO. More details here: https://t.co/L950T6oPP7.
Delighted to be joining the faculty at the University of Birmingham as an assistant professor and 125th Anniversary fellow. Excited to build a team and work on H0 from multiple probes via the NGSNCOSMO ERC/UKRI project
Congratulations to Dr. Suhail Dhawan on joining us as a 125th Anniversary Fellow. His research on supernovas and gravitational lenses helps to infer the rate the universe is expanding.
@styrofoamplates@DScol Yeah the brightness seemed like a big limitation. I guess the one risk with a single primary anchor is things like changes based on mcmc convergence or just no cross checks? Would be v keen to know more I should email you instead of tweeting
@styrofoamplates@DScol Oh thanks, my bad. are there plans to do a similar correction to f090w so all three calibrators can be used in anchoring the tip?
