Each little dot in this image is a cell with a blue nucleus and a green fluorescent stain. ๐งซ
This image is a tiled image meaning it is many small images stitched together into one large image. ๐ชก๐งต Can you see the 'tiling' pattern?

Two decades ago, these authors developed monomeric fluorescent proteins with delicious sounding names.

Welcome to 2024, we can see the brain like never before yet we still don't know how consciousness works. ๐ง โ๏ธ
Keep it curious, we have a lot more questions to answer. ๐ฅผ๐ฅณ

Researchers have generated a nanoscale-resolution reconstruction of a millimeter-scale fragment of human cerebral cortex, giving an unprecedented view into the structural organization of brain tissue at the supracellular, cellular, and subcellular levels. https://t.co/mm6b4swBvn
This week, I had some fun messing with more color arrangements for โburst cellโ (aka โfailed experimentโ) images. ๐ฅฒ๐ฌ๐งซ
I then passed my images along to someone who actually studies art! ๐จ๐ปSwipe to see his edits.

What do these images make you think of? ๐๐๐ญ๐
They're actually microscopic images at 20x magnification from one of my cell experiments this week. ๐งช๐งซ๐ฌ๐ป
Which staining looks better to you?

These are heart cells. Beating.
Using stem cells, scientists can grow cardiac tissue in a petri dish. The cells self-organize to form microchambers, which begin to beat like a full-sized heart

Here, I stained the same protein in the same cell line but with different fluorophores (either direct ๐ด or indirect ๐ข๐ก conjugation). The nuclei are in blue ๐ต.
What can I learn from an experiment like this? ๐ค

CMS releases #HiggsBoson discovery data to the public
The @CMSExperiment has recently released, in electronic format, the combination of the measurements that contributed to establishing the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012.
This release coincides with the publication of the Combine software โ the statistical analysis tool that CMS developed during the first run of #LHC, to search for the unique particle, which has since been adopted throughout the collaboration.
