The story blew me into pieces and gathered me to myself again.

The lesson of America’s ongoing conflict with Iran is inescapable: there is no reforming the Islamic Republic. After 47 years of terrorism, kleptocracy, and repression, the only durable solution is the regime’s complete dismantlement and President Trump has done more than any predecessor to make that possible.

But one element has been missing since fighting broke out in February: the Iranian people. The regime long ago lost their consent and survives on fear alone.

Uprisings are coming faster and spreading wider: from 80+ cities in 2017, to 100+ in 2019, to 160+ during Women, Life, Freedom in 2022, to over 200 cities across all 31 provinces this year, the largest revolt since 1979.

The regime’s bankrupt economy manufactures new protesters every month, and even its conscripts and Basij come from the same squeezed families they’re ordered to shoot.

The next uprising in Iran is a question of when, not if, and likely before Trump’s term ends. What’s missing is the third leg alongside military and economic leverage: an operational strategy to stand with Iranians when they rise.

That means breaking the information blackout with Starlink and satellite connectivity, degrading the regime’s machinery of repression through cyber operations, contingency planning to protect protesters from massacre, and quietly offering regime elites and commanders a path out.

No boots on the ground. No sanctions relief to the regime. Just foresight and the time to act is now.
