In an old interview with SPB, Ilaiyaraaja explains that once you sing the seven notes in order, it’s all about repeating and rearranging them in different permutations and combinations.

And then he shares an example.

For Apoorva Sagotharargal, Kamal Haasan gave him a reference song:

“நான் பார்த்ததிலே அவள் ஒருத்தியைத்தான்…”

Raja came back with:

“புது மாப்பிள்ளைக்கு நல்ல நேரமடா…” 🎶

Kamal loved the song and asked him the idea behind it..

Raja simply replied, “Whatever you gave me, I just gave it back.”

He then sang the old lyrics in his new tune, revealing the clever connection. You would probably never realise it unless Raja himself pointed it out.

That’s the magic of the Maestro.
He calls it “ஏமாற்று வேலை”; we call it genius. 🎼✨❤️
