France has over 40,000 castles (and châteaus) - more than any other country.
These are the most breathtaking 🧵

TREAT LIFE LIKE A VIDEO GAME:
Life can be thought of as the ultimate game. A game which you can win, or lose. Several of the strategies we apply to video games can be used or related to real life so that you can WIN.
- You are the Hero of this tale
- You can level up in anything you want, just grind it
- speak to NPCs, they could have quests for you
- If you don’t like an area, go somewhere else
- Form a Guild of likeminded people to work with
- It's Not Real
You are the hero:
Act as if it is so! This does not mean discount others - but do everything in your power to improve yourself! You are the one that you spend the most time with - you have to enjoy life and live it under your terms. Create the future you want - you are the hero! Imagine everything in your 'storyline' goes the way you want it to - because the hero always wins in the end.
You can level up anything - just grind it:
Practice helps everything - want level 100 smithing? Go bang on an anvil every day. You will get better eventually. Go talk to a stranger = +1 public speaking. Lift weights and get good sleep = +1 Strength With focused effort and repeated time spent doing an activity, you can level up in anything. Remember this when you think you are ‘bad’ at something - its only because you haven’t practiced.
Speak to NPCs - they could have quests for you
Become a part of your community, talk to people you don’t know; you never know when a connection can lead to something beautiful and helpful. I have experienced many a fun 'side quest' because I just spoke to the people I encounter.
If you don’t like an area, go somewhere else
Everyone has parts of a game that aren’t enjoyable - simply go somewhere else. This works for geography but also the people you are around. If people aren’t helping you get towards your goals or you’re not enjoying this part of life, go somewhere else. Change instances. Change activities, go 'raid a different dungeon'. If you're not having fun, you can go somewhere else.
Form a Guild
Just like the knights of old would form ORDERS to conquer evil together - so too the strength of man is magnified by becoming part of a group with the same intentions and aims. Find and form relationships with people who are on the same path as you. Bouncing off and learning from such people is imperative to your progress. Life's better with friends.
It’s Not Real
Now you are much more likely to do something silly but FUN in a video game than in Real life. You think - ‘What if people judge me? I don’t want to look stupid’. Realise that everything you do, no one is really thinking about you as much as you think. We all go back to the same void in the end, and you don’t want to have regrets on your deathbed. At the end of the day, you shouldn't let the 'realness' of life dictate whether or not you do or say something.
GO LIVE LIFE IN THE MOST STUPENDOUSLY ENJOYABLE WAY POSSIBLE.
In the process, you might find that you have beaten the game - then you can increase the difficulty as you get to a higher level.
But that is a discussion for another time...
i meditated 799 days in a row hoping for a breakthrough...
then it happened in an instant.
what i saw was somehow both shocking and obvious.
and i couldn't believe i'd missed it for 31 years...
this meditation began like any other:
🔹i sat down in my cramped music teaching room beside my drum kits
🔹i got comfortable
🔹i closed my eyes
🔹i watched my breath
🔹i got distracted
🔹i watched my breath
🔹i got distracted
🔹i watched my breath...
eventually i got quiet.
and as i did i became able to observe my experience on a more subtle level.
thoughts came and went...
sensations came and went...
emotions came and went...
dan came and went...
wait, WHAT?
dan came and went?!
sometimes in meditation something will hit you like a line of cocaine, and suddenly you no longer need to try to focus—because what's going on is captivating.
i was on the good sh!t now.
i found i could examine this "dan" that came and went.
it was my sense of myself: a cocktail of sensation that for 31 years i'd taken to be "me".
but seeing that this "me" came and went gave rise to a delusion-shattering question...
"if this is me," i thought, "who am i when it's not here?"
KAPOW!
the mere posing of the question triggered realization.
i saw that i'd been operating on an assumption for 31 years.
the assumption was that this "dan" i'd witnessed was somehow ticking along in the background while i went about my life—waiting for me to check in on it from time to time.
like "yup, i'm still me!"
but what i saw in meditation that day was that this "me-ness" was just like any other thought, feeling or sensation:
🔹temporary
🔹fleeting
🔹impermanent
oh my...
the identity i'd taken to be solid my whole life was really just more "stuff".
🔹the sense of inadequacy
🔹the insecurity
🔹the shame
🔹the guilt
🔹the fear
in my direct experience, all this was no more substantial than the weather or a tv show or a sneeze.
granted, that familiar "me-ness" came around more frequently than most things.
but how often did it come around really?
i contemplated this and realized it only really came around 2 or 3 times most days.
perhaps more often when i was particularly self-conscious.
but less often when engrossed in some experience or another.
and was it ever really the same?
as i watched it fade in and out of awareness i realized that no, it was never quite the same.
so it really was just "stuff".
"oh my fvcking god," i thought, "i really don't exist. that buddha dude was right!"
this realization was liberating.
from that day on, whenever my old sense of inadequacy came up, i saw it like a raincloud.
when insecurity came up, i saw it like a mosquito.
when shame came up, i saw it like a bad smell.
when guilt came up, i saw it like an noisy neighbour.
when fear came up, i saw it like a flat tyre.
never again would i take these things to be solid.
never again would they define me.
and as i saw them in this way more and more, they showed up less and less.
this is the power of seeing your true nature.
you are not anything you take yourself to be.
because anything you take yourself to be is a thing.
you are not a collection of things.
you are the awareness that perceives all things.
because unlike things, this awareness doesn't come and go.
this awareness is like space: unharmed, unfazed, untouched by anything within it.
but don't take my word for it.
to see it for yourself, all you must do is get quiet and look.
perhaps for 799 days...
perhaps only for 1.

What an amazing story.
“In Washington DC, at a Metro Station, on a cold January morning in 2007, a man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, approximately 2000 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.
After about four minutes, a middle-aged man noticed that there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds, and then he hurried on to meet his schedule.
About four minutes later, the violinist received his first dollar. A woman threw money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.
At six minutes, a young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.
At ten minutes, a three-year old boy stopped, but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head the whole time. This action was repeated by several other children, but every parent - without exception - forced their children to move on quickly.
At forty-five minutes: The musician played continuously. Only six people stopped and listened for a short while. About twenty gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.
After one hour:
He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed and no one applauded. There was no recognition at all.
No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before, Joshua Bell sold-out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100 each to sit and listen to him play the same music.
This is a true story. Joshua Bell, playing incognito in the D.C. Metro Station, was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people’s priorities.
This experiment raised several questions:
In a common-place environment, at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty?
If so, do we stop to appreciate it?
Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?
One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this:
If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made…
How many other things are we missing as we rush through life?”
What is the metabolism?
The metabolism is the system in our body that controls energy use.
Think of it like an engine.
It responds and adjusts according to inputs from our internal & external environment.
The metabolism is malleable - meaning we can influence it.
Here's how:

18 Belgian men killed their peer during a student hazing. 4 years later, they get away with a €400 fine and 300 hours of voluntary work...
The murderers are rich, white, belgian men. The victim a 20-year-old from a Belgian-Senegalese background.

Media refuse to name the murderers of #SandaDia and a Belgian YouTuber has been sanctioned for discussing some of them.
On another note - completely unrelated - here are some boys who have absolutely nothing to do with #Reuzegom. Just a group of innocent boys, apparently.
