Sometime soldier, occasional philosopher and now a very poor metal detectorist attempting to save history one field at a time, buttons are a specialty!
@thinkdefence Perhaps a follow up question that we should be asking is why are we building large, singular, unhardened C2 facilities in the first place given the nature of threat?
@thinkdefence Fd Hosp’s are loaded into ISO (200 bed facility was about 50-60 ISO) and moved by 3rd line lift (this could be a local contractor), I see no reason why any large HQ, which, given the size/time to deploy & build, is unlikely to move (often) does not follow the same model.
@thinkdefence …and raise a transport regt to do it, it could be called 7 Tank Transporter Regt. In all seriousness though great idea, I wonder what the max load of one of those trailers is as it would effect the number of loaded vehicles on the back.
@nicholadrummond Seems strange to retire something from Army service that’s only 12 years old after all, we have long standing tradition of running equipment on and on…. (430 series (63 years and not out), Landrover Wolf (27ish years), etc). @thinkdefence
@B0ATsmith@Sam_Cranny Sort of in the middle, Sept/Oct 1984 - Ex Lionheart, the last ever time the British Army fielded a Corps with 113,000 of us in real fire trenches and under cam nets. Be the Best (within the limitations of your kit)!
@thinkdefence Perhaps the thinking here is wrong, should we not be striving for a swift, decisive win, not trench deadlock, leading to fixed routes requiring defensive infrastructure. Moreover, doesn’t investment in protection signpost routes (unless it’s part of a deception plan)?
@thinkdefence Sort out what we’ve got and concurrently look to the future, accept 70% solutions and stop all ‘good ideas clubs’ once the SOR is out to tender/in actual product, look at what other NATO countries are building and jump on the back (saving R&D cost/time).
@TheUCS473@SageDespatches In my experience, I knew the date that I was going and focused my efforts on that date - it seems to have worked. My only other piece of advice is to maintain contact with old mates, check in with them from time to time, the check in works both ways.
@pinstripedline@patrickgcox Even if we had sufficient ammunition there’s insufficient transport to get it to where it’s required (eg each MLRS Regt had a dedicated Arty Sp Sqn RLC for 2nd Line lift).
@thinkdefence Don’t forget that it’s not just about the box, you need folks to man it, nurses take 3 years to qualify, a Surgeon takes 8-10 years to qualify as a Consultant (all UK DMS treatment is Consultant led), then you need the actual experience/training in that box.
