A manuscript. 📜

Read that again.

This is not decoration.
This is documentation.

Before “women weren’t educated.”
Before “textual authority was male.”
Before colonial historians decided who was allowed to read, write, transmit.

Her body is fluid, unashamed.
Her posture is relaxed, confident.
And her hand?
Occupied with knowledge.

This is not symbolism invented later.
This is sculpture doing historiography.

Ask yourself:
If women were excluded from learning, why carve her with a text?
If literacy was rare, why make it central to her identity?

This image survived.
The narrative didn’t.

Victorian morality couldn’t process this.
So it was silenced, reframed, aestheticised.

“Just art.”
No.
Art is evidence.

She stands there calmly holding what power fears most:
memory. ✍🏽

And yes—
this is Indian.
Long before modern defensiveness.
Long before imported shame. 🔥
