Economic incentives are needed to advance butterfly conservation. When people get paid for milkweed pods or otherwise are able to stack values, habitat support expands.

Our Cardinal Flowers are ridiculously good plants this year—transplanting plugs into 3” pots today. Going to bloom like crazy in summer, hummingbirds will be happy. https://t.co/Nc68aiFVdq

Back from leading another successful @FloridaMuseum trip to the overwintering sites of #Monarchs. Butterflies were in good numbers in both colonies visited in the beautiful mountains of Michoacán in Mexico.
We had 29 people on the trip - a record number since my first trip of this kind in 2005. Local communities (and thus Monarch habitat preservation) depend on ecotourism, which only begins to recover from covid-related decline.
Cool fact: monarch's departure for Mexico in the fall has shifted by 2 weeks in the last 29 years. But most still are able to arrive more or less on time. Can you do that?
