Saturday Evening Thoughts:
The Trump administration is counting on something.
Not your agreement.
Your exhaustion.
Authoritarian movements rarely succeed because everyone supports them. They succeed when enough people decide resistance is hopeless.
Donât give them that victory.
History is filled with ordinary people who faced moments that seemed impossibleâŚand acted anyway.
Call your representatives.
Support independent journalism.
Show up locally.
Stay informed.
Stay engaged.
Democracy isnât defended by heroes riding in on white horses.
Itâs defendedâŚby millions of stubborn citizensâŚwho refuse to surrender their voice.
The goal isnât to never feel discouraged.
The goalâŚis to keep moving forward despite it.
Thatâs how democracies survive.
And thatâs exactly why our participation matters.
As tough as it is, try to ignore the endless 10+ day doomsday frame grabs of the GFS model. They are everywhere, and they are posted for engagement and $$. If and when there is something to be concerned about, Iâll start talking about it. Itâs a long season. No need to start it off with unnecessary angst.
Itâs time to talk about the House moving to impeach RFK Jr. His unilateral actions to restrict COVID vaccine access and also cancel the contract with Moderna for mRNA flu vaccines places the health of this country in jeopardy. Heâs unfit to be HHS Sec. https://t.co/girBrlaBgM
If they are actually going to enforce deportations in FL at job sites then the construction industry in FL will grind to a halt.
Until they can replace those employees with US-born workers willing to work outside in the summer in 100 degree heat & humidity. Should be no problem.
Like a lot of other people, I am a multitasker. I have 289 open tabs in the browser Iâm writing on right now, and I usually have 4-5 screens within my viewing range. So, I see a lot of the surface of the media sphere, including, for example, my TV screen which almost always has the sound off.
As @MSNBC was reporting today on the Trump regimeâs unconstitutional, racist, vicious attack on Harvard, I saw numerous chyrons on the allegedly âliberalâ network portraying this raw fascism as a âshowdown,â a âfeud,â a âbattleâ and so on.
Dear Media: Stop doing this. Iâm begging you. This is why we got here.
ďżź
This is not just âbothsides-ing,â itâs lying. It is rank, false, state-sponsored propaganda, especially when you platform a regime apologist to promote it. This is doing the governmentâs work to normalize the previously un-normalizable.
If some part of the media canât resist carrying the water of this authoritarian fascist state, it will cement the fate of America. Nevertheless, it sure seems like theyâve all given up already. If so, it is the death knell of the Republic.
This is like Trump calling Ukraine being attacked by Russia a âfeud.â This is not a âshowdownâ between two equal entities, itâs an American institution being unilaterally torn down for no reason other than bigotry, ignorance and greed. And to instill fear in the hearts of every American, or anyone who would dare to try and come here from another country to learn.
I only went to a few semesters of college myself. It just wasnât my thing. I have no âdogâ in this fight. However, I understand how important these institutions are to the very fabric of American life. I want my grandkids to be able to go to college if they want. And I want the innovation that comes from these places of learning to continue in my country.
To destroy the education system is against the law, against common decency, and against the interest of the American people. Itâs intellectual terrorism no different than how Hitler waged his war on knowledge as he created the worst death machine in world historyâby brainwashing his own country from childhood up.
âUniversities in Nazi Germany were strictly controlled by the authorities. Senior university professors were hand-picked Nazis. The subjects that were taught in universities had to fit in to Nazi ideology and few in the universities were prepared to openly defy the regime.â
This is exactly what Trump and the broligarchy want in Americaâindependent thought is not to be tolerated.
Words matter, especially the ones you put out in front, or at the top, of your story. Harvard is standing up for itself, and Iâm grateful for that. But why should anyone else put themselves at risk when the media will just mischaracterize tyranny as a âshowdownâ or a âfeudâ?
The press must do better right now or it will never have the chance again. This is not a âbattle.â This is a war. On all of us. Get it right.

Why do I keep going on about Covid?
Because the accepted narrative seems to be that Covid was harmless and the vaccines were dangerous
This is wrong and I won't allow history to be rewritten
Not without a fight, anyway
đ¨ NEW: Sec. John Kerry comes out strong in defense of President Biden:
âI think there's been a certain amount of piling on. And I think they ought to allow the president to have his privacy as he deals with a very tough diagnosis,â says @JohnKerry.
He adds Biden had âtotal full faculty,â was âa tough taskmaster,â and âdemanded precision and answersâ and was the most legislatively accomplished president in 60 years.
He made the tough callsâand he made them right.
Well said, Secretary Kerry!
There is still an opportunity to make our voices heard and to stop Trumpâs âbig, beautiful billâ from becoming law.
This is not final. Call your Senator today: (202) 224-3121
BREAKING: In a stunning moment, renowned journalist Scott Pelley just highlighted how Donald Trump is working to stifle free speech in America, and how he plans on fighting back. This is huge.
