Bonfire Social 1.0 is live! A federated, community‑first social network built on the modular Bonfire toolkit, and it’s only the beginning.
Back the “last migration” from closed platforms to open networks: https://t.co/nArL2An3xc
It's time to go beyond microblogging and build apps for community organising, open science, mutual aid, and collective decision‑making. Let's take back the internet with open protocols, consent‑based governance, and portability by design.

We’re crowdfunding for maintenance first: the unsexy work funders usually don’t want to support. Our new post explains why care and maintenance are the foundation before we can unlock all the other stretch goals: https://t.co/pmBlPtUqjD
We’re at 74%. Help us cross the finish line: https://t.co/UMVQSYSLsf
We're crowdfunding the next phase, building community-governed social infrastructure beyond microblogging in cooperation with communities and teams:
- E2E Encryption
- Collective Moderation
- Federated Groups & Events
- Collective decision-making
- Bluesky bridging
- Mutual Aid Networks
- Cooperative Hosting
- Native apps
- and more...

I'm experimenting with building an agent to build @liveviewnative UIs. Here is the experiment from the weekend. First image is pure SwiftUI. Second image is LiveView Native.

For those curious about what's technically possible, here's the OpenAlex API docs: https://t.co/8OcqCdkrkt
We could explore research networks, collaboration patterns, open access rates, interdisciplinary connections, and more...
The question is:
what would make profiles genuinely useful for how you work?
Let's build this together 📷
As we integrate #OpenAlex data into the #Bonfire#OpenScience flavor, we're displaying familiar metrics: works count, citations, h-index, research topics, institutional affiliations...
These might be exactly what you need, or perhaps just a starting point.
What additional information would help you find collaborators or understand someone's work better?
We're opening this design process to the open science community. Share what works, what doesn't, what's missing.

Are you a community, organization or project needing custom features while staying connected to the open web?
Our #Mosaic initiative makes this possible: build your specific tools (open knowledge management, coordination, governance, resource sharing, ...), or integrate your existing tools in your digital space while federating with the wider ecosystem.
Learn how at https://t.co/Z0P1zt5809
Your needs, your tools, your community, all connected. 🧩
🌊 Exciting news! Crowdinblue - a mission-led initiative bridging water solutions with funding - has chosen #Bonfire to build their federated community space!
Together, we're designing custom extensions to connect water projects with impact investors and crowdfunding opportunities. All in a federated environment that puts communities and projects first.
Welcome to the Bonfire ecosystem, crowdinblue! 💙

We're experimenting with federated geosocial features in Bonfire, free from surveillance capitalism.
Check into your local community garden. Add location to mutual aid requests. Find tools nearby.
Imagine your local #fablab or #community center sharing check-ins, calendars, events, opening hours - all federated. A living hub for what's happening there.

This unlocks new possibilities for local organizing, let's explore together 🔥

@ThatArrowsmith it's definitively not abandoned, but would love to see how AI can help you navigate the bonfire codebase and get you up and running on building federated social networking extensions with a non-trivial codebase :)
It looks like Apple fixed the compilation bug we found in Xcode 16.3 beta.2, we're testing out beta.3 to confirm. If it's resolved then we can move ahead with releasing 0.4.0 final this upcoming week mostly likely.
