You’ll complain that companies aren’t paying real artists, but when companies actually hire and pay real artists, you take the artist’s work, feed it into AI, and then claim you recreated it in a few minutes.
Make it make sense.
We've been getting a lot of questions lately about how the Internet Archive digitizes books.
The short answer: page by page, by hand.
You may remember our viral 2021 video of Eliza Zhang scanning a book. That's still how we do it.
Meet Eliza, and learn how we scan books: https://t.co/gt9s5lbPE4
Google Books is becoming a desert. Its regress is real: the knowledge we were assured was both safely stored and freely available, which led libraries and schools to get rid of their books, has retreated into the shadows. The internet of 2026 knows less than the internet of 2010.
A PBS station has taken legal action after losing access to more than 50TB of programming and archives spanning 70 years of television history
It claims its files became trapped after its cloud storage provider apparently went out of business
It's really easy for me to compete with resellers because they're offering my content for $18 a pack and I'm offering the same assets for free! @ArtStationHQ
AI companies are buying rare books by the million, cutting the spines off, scanning them through industrial machines, and shredding the originals.
No... not bestsellers...not reprints.
Rare books.
Books with hardly two-three surviving copies in the world.
Books that outlasted wars, fires, and centuries of handling.
A federal judge ruled this is fair use because destroying the original means only one copy exists at a time.
So it is legal and so it will accelerate.
As per 404 Media, the service that facilitates this openly bragged that "AI company destroys two million books" is not a headline that generates sympathy, and built an entire anonymous pipeline anyway.
NDAs are offered as a product feature.
Clients are coached to call it "digital preservation."
AI companies scraping the web, torrenting libraries, and ripping music is not new but this... this is different.
You can re-upload a website. You can reprint a bestseller.
But you cannot replace the last copies of an 18th-century botanical manuscript once they go through the shredder.
These greedy AI gaints are permanently erasing pieces of human knowledge so that AI can write better, human sounding marketing emails.
And they have the audacity to call themselves 'anthropic'.
It's completely unnecessary to destroy books when machines like this exist.
This book scanner by Treventus for example, can scan fragile books without destroying it.
The current state of AI companies; they're aware they can't create game assets as good as ours so they just take them and then claim they were generated using their slop machines. A new low, every single day.
@higgsfield_ai - any comment?
I’m happy to announce the release of a new open source 3D physics engine called Box3D. I’ve been working on this project for a few years now, but it represents over 20 years of experience writing physics engines for games. Read more here: https://t.co/2d9aVuUsxj
Dear sound effect and music asset creators;
Please stop using generative AI for your thumbnails. You're putting a giant label on your work that gives the impression it's low effort slop, even when the actual content might be excellent stuff!

Turbo Pascal 3.02's EXE (39KB) was smaller than:
• The minified version of jQuery 1.6 (88KB)
• The Yahoo home page (215KB)
• The zlib.h file in the NCBI C++ ToolKit (97KB)
• The 'touch' binary on macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 (99KB)
• The Wikipedia page for C++ (214KB)
Something that's worth highlighting about the DLSS 5 fiasco....this was NVIDIAs tech demo. This is them displaying the product in the most favorable way where they have all the power to make it look as good as possible and curate the result. And it STILL looks this bad.
