Being an Assistant Professor in Biology at McMaster means I get to do what I love most - ask cool questions and work with a team to answer them. Science is fun!
This story really captures the values of the lab. Curiosity, courage, and collaboration.

I'm sorry to say that my brother, Jonathon Doyle, passed away this past Tuesday. We've set up a Children's Aid Foundation "Dare to Dream" bursary in his name. He will be sorely missed.
A huge undertaking with a big pay-off. The results from this paper made me rethink our current approaches to solving the "rhizobia competition problem" in agriculture, which I wrote about (with help from two amazing undergrads!) in this @CurrentBiology Dispatch Article #Microbes
How does interstrain competition among microbes affect their services to hosts? Experimental work out today by @ac_arafat shows the marked costs to symbiosis. Check it out here: https://t.co/49pbNlHKU1
Calling all microbiologists at #BEEPEG2023! 🔬 The Canadian Journal of #Microbiology is curating an interdisciplinary collection on microbial #ecology & #evolution, providing the opportunity for diverse researchers to connect, network, and collaborate. 🔗https://t.co/w418w4ty2f
Honoured to kick off the Microbial ecology and evolution symposium this morning! Had such a fantastic time chatting with fellow microbe lovers. Thanks @LeaGrie @acgerstein for organizing this awesome symposium! #BEEPEG2023
We are recruiting a #MSc or #PhD student to join us @queensu in 2024, to work on bacterial (rhizobium) genomics & ecology. A chance to learn both wet-lab and dry-lab methods. See the attached image or https://t.co/8wbox7hEzn for details and how to apply. #AcademicTwitter
We have 3 funded #postdoc positions in our team at @queensu! Positions span wet-lab microbiology, dry-lab genomics, and synthetic biology, in agricultural microbiology and green biotech. See the attached images or https://t.co/8wbox7hEzn for details and how to apply.#postdocjobs
Microbiome transplants help trees tolerate climate changes? Another nifty paper in @ScienceMagazine by @CassandraAllsup and colleagues

Come work with us in Biology @McMasterU ! We are seeking to fill a three-year contractually limited, teaching-focused faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Cellular Biology and Animal/Cell Physiology. Please share! https://t.co/seNwaoCGxm
I’m really excited to share this preprint which is the result of my very first project discussion with @JohnStinchcombe and @ME_Frederickson at the start of my PhD! A thread on latitudinal diversity gradients in symbiotic microbial communities. https://t.co/BO0rwoknWn
Dear colleagues- Do you plan to #SupportOurScience on Monday? The constant worry over finances is hurting out students, driving some to leave academia, and reducing access.
Canadian PhD students and postgrads plan mass walkout over low pay https://t.co/cXDOyFkXdC @utfaculty
We did a thing!! 🎉 Out now @ISMEJournal - A tale of "slimy" and "stabby" bacteria, of modelling (@willpjsmith) and experiments, and a case study on outreach as a powerful catalyst for scientific research. Summary thread 🧵 below! https://t.co/XVTBDbmLcX 1/n
Join the Biology Department @McMasterScience for a seminar by visiting Research Fellow @CarinaCarlaKern of @IHAatUCL, whose research focuses on the genetics, evolution, and neuroscience of aging and disease.
