Yes you can choose to trust yourself and the cryptography. Every approach has different trade offs. My only point is that I don’t think most people can handle self custody, and if bitcoiners keep trying to impose their preferences on a world that doesn’t fit those preferences, then it’s going to create more harm than good.

About a third of the people that voted for Trump are boomer cons or spiritually boomer con. They sees themselves as the legitimate political project on the right. They feel morally bound to defend that project from undesirables they think will corrupt it. See Joel Berry. The conservatism he grew up with, that he loves and defends, is basically 2011 national review conservatism. A lot of people that are genuinely attitudinally conservative seem to anchor themselves on something in their formative years and then lack the plasticity to ever update that, even long after it’s become a liability.

Is this delusional and doomed to fail? Yes. But there is a lot of delusion everywhere.

Mixed feelings on Nolan’s Odyssey. Several sequences were cool. Some choices were annoying. I’m sympathetic to the Pageau reading that the film is secretly based, however Nolan seems to think suitors exploiting guest right are downstream of the Trojan horse exploitation of guest right, a kind of just/or expected punishment. In any case, like in Dark Knight, Nolan believes it takes violence to restore the proper order but we then need to sequester, exile the purveyor of that violence.

Genres are codified at a certain time when people have certain tastes. Once it’s codified if you attempt something in that genre that doesn’t follow those conventions, the median person won’t recognize it as being of that genre. So if you bring a national anthem to a committee deciding on the anthem and it doesn’t sound like what they think an anthem should sound like, they won’t select it.
