For years, this corridor has been essential for Iran’s logistical reinforcements and support for its allies in Syria and Lebanon.

Die islamistischen Kräfte, die gerade Syrien erobern (Gott erbarme sich der Christen vor Ort), signalisieren ihre Verbundenheit zu Israel und ihre Bereitschaft, einen anti-iranischen Kurs mitzutragen. Es wäre (fürs erste) das Ende des Baathismus als eigenständige arabisch-nationale Strömung und würde den Nahen Osten in eine tiefere Konfrontationslage zwischen Israel, den eingekauften Golfmonarchien und sunnitischen Islamisten auf der einen und dem Iran, Hisbollah und Hamas auf der anderen Seite stürzen.

Russland und China scheinen dies allerdings hinzunehmen. Ihre Passivität darf als goutierendes Verhalten gewertet werden. Womöglich bahnt sich ein Konsens zwischen Washington und Moskau an: Ukrainische Kapitulation für Israels Raumdominanz. Eine Eskalation im Nahen Osten mit dem Amtsantritt von Trump wird dadurch allerdings wahrscheinlicher.
