Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980 and reversed all of the ridiculous Jimmy Carter policies and reduced inflation from 19%. He collapsed the Soviet Union and Eastern European + Scandinavian countries became free under Reagan in the 80’s. The economy boomed, the military was rebuilt, won the Cold War and bought respect back to the US from the disastrous Iran hostage crisis.
