@mattBernius@johnniewalker65@RadioFreeTom They may have realized early on that you don’t need to either pay or blackmail him, all you need to do is tell him over and over how great and smart he is. The man is a black hole for emotional validation.
@RadioFreeTom This is yet another one of those moments when you look at what this administration does and you think, “What sense does that make?”, and then you can’t help thinking that it all makes complete sense if you posit that the aim is to cause harm to America.
@nobhillinvest@burackbobby_ In that case, basketball is exempt from your rule, since it was invented by a Canadian-American, James Naismith, based on a game he had played as a youth growing up in Canada. It therefore cannot be considered strictly a “US game”.

@ArnulfoCarden17@DrJacobsRad Good thing, then, that we have one of the world’s top economists as our PM, who has already helped guide Canada through a severe international economic crisis (and was thanked by PM Harper for it), and then did the same thing in the UK after the disaster of Brexit.
@nobhillinvest@burackbobby_ He stood up for it. That’s all a non-American should be expected to do. What do you do when the Canadian anthem is played at MLB and NHL games?
@Dred_Tory Sure, but do we really need yet another PM (in a very long line) who views the HoC as nothing more than a rubber stamp for a few people in the PMO? That’s not how our system was designed to work.
@ryan_mayhew29@RonDeSantis A completely independent agency to run all federal elections, like Canada has, would be a great idea. But of course state and local elections would still be run by the states. Anything else would grossly violate states’ rights. I’m sure Gov. DeSantis would agree with that.
@BertaGenX@RodDMartin@jkenney Also, I disagree with you that "those who want it do not care". Judging from many posts here, there seem to be lots of people who assume that they would retain their Cdn citizenship with AB independence, and they get irritated when someone suggests otherwise.
@BertaGenX@RodDMartin@jkenney *assertion
If you're going to vote to leave, at least do so with a clear and transparent understanding of the *possible* consequences. /end
@warhawk_109@jkenney I'm *not* talking about pensions. Anyone who paid into CPP would of course have a right to their entitlements, although the details would have to be worked out. Presumably people who voted for independence would have no problem letting the AB gov't administer their pensions. ;)
@warhawk_109@jkenney It's not a question of vindictiveness, it's a question of calculating Canada's interests. Please explain how it would be in Canada's interests to allow everyone in a newly independent Alberta to also continue to have legal claims on the Cdn government. 1/2
@mroranges197584@SLB9805@jkenney That’s life in a large, diverse federation.
Just imagine how much say Alberta would have if it joined the US as the 51st state. (Hint: ask Montana how much say it has.)
@mroranges197584@SLB9805@jkenney What you’re really saying is that western premiers often don’t get their way when they’re fighting with the feds. But this is also true of Atlantic premiers, Ontario premiers, and especially Quebec premiers, who generally love fighting with the feds and usually end up losing.
