Leadership should be judged on facts and service. @szaafran has dedicated his career to patient care and upholding the mission of the Texas Medical Board. The reporting confirms there is no evidence of wrongdoing, the title of the article draws attention, but ultimately to a non story by @DallasExpress. Texas patients deserve strong physician leadership, and Dr. Zaafran’s record reflects exactly that. @texmed@TSAPhysicians@ASAGrassroots@ASALifeline

Nothing will kill more children than the ongoing decimation of CDC, NIH, and USAID work to lift vaccine uptake in the US and world.
Child survival rose 75% in the last 50 years. Vaccines account for 40% of that. Measles vax alone was 60% of the benefit. https://t.co/GgQeCuAcJc
When you go to your local ED and have wait 6 hours to be seen, don’t ask why.
We know why.
When you get your bill and you find that the expensive insurance you have paid for with your cash and wages doesn’t actually pay anything, don’t ask why.
We know why.
I spoke with a solo family physician at a conference recently who said he tried to negotiate with UHC for a higher reimbursement and in response, they simply dropped him from their network. @UHC actively works to limit patient access to primary care.
@MidlevelCare “FPA is not hinging on education” 😳 WOW!!!! That statement alone says it all. Can we just replay that on loop! Imagine a Doctor saying “My license to practice should Not hinge on any educational requirements” Does this effectively make the State Medical Boards obsolete?!
I learned something this week. All those saying it’s the American College of Cardiology, not the American College of Cardiologists are correct. I was wrong and I admit that.
To that end, you’re correct as well. Cardiologists do not have a professional society.
Congrats to pilots for advocating for their profession. So many compare medicine to flying (checklist manifesto) so either physicians form a union and demand better pay or start forming independent practices to move away from the MBA who siphon $$ from patients and physicians.
The replacement of physicians in leadership is no accident

In case you are wondering why it’s hard to find a doctor that takes Medicare:
We can’t get paid to do so.
I love my Medicare patients but I can’t see them for free. 😥
I don’t understand why there is a “is healthcare a privilege or right” debate in America.
#EMTALA has made healthcare a right, period. This 1986 federal statute mandates EVERYONE gets medically screened for an emergency and given emergency treatment if needed, regardless of ability to pay. It’s why you can walk into any ER and be seen in the US…It’s just that the bill comes later.
The question is who is paying for this?Even though we don’t have “universal healthcare”, here’s the punchline:
YOU (taxpayers) are paying for it, whether you like it or not, via:
-Taxes going to your local county hospital
-Taxes going to the government and then disbursed to hospitals for charity care as DSH payments or tax-exemptions to non-profits
-Cost shifting by hospitals to offset non-paying patients (in other words, hospitals charge higher prices knowing that the paying patients of these higher prices offset the non-paying patients)
EMTALA was an unfunded mandate —and YOU are being taxed on it.
A thoughtful healthcare reform would help create an actual system of comprehensive healthcare beyond just emergency care. Primary and preventative care, chronic disease management, can drastically decrease emergency needs. Systematic change would allow us to contain costs, improve efficiency and actually look at hard questions like access and funding— not just slap it all into the ER and hope and pray for the best.
@AndrewJSauer@cmmtchll Very common for insurance companies to do this. I call them personally. I tell them that I am documenting what they did for the record. Then I ask if they are accepting the liability for a bad outcome without the prescribed medication. Usually they ok it after that.
@cfm121 For all people upset by the news doctors will be charging for their expertise and time. Please leave your name and workplace so we all can utilize your free services.
@kkmaggiepie@Tamara39224 @RIDICULO_pathy Why would doctors fail PA boards? 😂 what are PA schools teaching if not watered down medicine? Or is it wizardry ?
