Our highest and most urgent national priority should be AI safeguards. The risks of AI weapons, pathogens, mass unemployment, surveillance, and even extinction must not continue to be largely ignored.

Every year, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.
They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.
France also gave us this land as American soil. #MemorialDayWeekend
@SeanTrende Thank you for sharing your sweet son and celebrating those who have taught and cared for him. And thank you for writing about your joys, sorrows and fears - it’s easy to feel alone in this curated social media world. It does help.
@ashtonteng@KelseyTuoc I want you here and so do many other Americans. I’m sorry that the group of people in charge right now are making these terrible policy decisions.
@Craig_A_Spencer@nytimes Thank you for your service to others. I’m so sorry that you were witness to such terrible loss. I’m thankful for your willingness to share and advocate.
@vkhosla@GlopesMd Do you want an informatics person or a practicing physician with the skills to serve as a bridge? I worked as a software product manager prior to med school and I would strongly urge you to find practicing physicians who continue to practice part time.
If anybody needs reagents, we do have nice Andesvirus specific mAbs that we are happy to share (here: https://t.co/OVxFQBQEtK) and unpublished broadly neutralizing hantavirus mAbs. Just shoot me an email.
@tweedylouwho@neoavatara No, it’s herd immunity that protects these kids too young and those who are immunosuppressed and otherwise can’t receive the vaccine. It’s a super effective (and safe) vaccine but given how contagious measles is, requires a high rate of vaccination to achieve herd immunity.
@jasonryanmd I don’t like to fight with folks whose mind won’t change but there are a lot of people who read those posts and are influenced - they do a lot of damage. So it seems worthwhile to leave a reasoned comment at times…but it really takes a lot of patience.
"Health policy experts have been surprised to see such lopsided results that favor doctors." lol--no insurers underpay every chance they get
