In 2022 my rapist was convicted, but his lawyer left me traumatised. Amidst the pain, I found my power and built a case against that lawyer by myself. And won. A few months ago, I returned to Glasgow’s High Court to take this photo. It used to scare me, but not any more.

On Aug 28, 1880, 19-year-old Margaret, charged with a sex-offence "prostitution", became the first prisoner at the Andrew Mercer Reformatory. She was released on Feb 3, 1881, and her fate remains unknown. This is the only newspaper article found so far.
In moments like this, as systems and institutions around us falter we focus on the sex workers who came before us and who survived and even thrived under a wide variety of leaders, laws, and efforts to eradicate our livelihood and existence.
One critical step is better protections against discrimination based on economic or social disadvantage (social condition). Adding social condition as a ground of discrimination under the Canadian Human Rights Act is an obvious and necessary choice.
