Las acusaciones que la gobernadora de Chihuahua lanzó en días pasados contra Ariadna Montiel tienen origen en un reporte de inteligencia federal cuya autenticidad fue confirmada por fuentes de seguridad. Fue debido a la existencia de ese reporte que la gobernadora Maru Campos pidió públicamente que la dirigente de Morena aclarara su relación con el crimen organizado.
Es absurdo hablar de “ética”, de “rigor” y de “golpeteo de la derecha” cuando por todas partes surgen los acuerdos entre el narco y el movimiento que la señora Montiel encabeza.

⚖️ La Barra Sonorense de Abogados advirtió sobre riesgos para la independencia judicial por la reforma en México.

El organismo cuestionó la elección de jueces por voto popular y las restricciones al juicio de amparo, al considerar que debilitan la seguridad jurídica.

También señaló como foco rojo la expulsión de la #CONATRIB de la Unión Internacional de Magistrados, luego de respaldar la reforma judicial. La Barra exigió revisar esa postura y hacer las correcciones necesarias para garantizar una justicia imparcial, libre de presiones políticas.

Coming up with titles is one of those parts of writing that can be surprisingly difficult.

Sometimes a title arrives almost immediately, and I know it’s the right one. Other times I can spend weeks going through possibilities, rejecting them all and wondering whether I’ll ever find something that works.

DOPE was one of the easier decisions.

The novel is set in Portland, Oregon, and much of the story revolves around the city’s drug trade, particularly the damage caused by opioids such as oxycodone and fentanyl. It’s a subject I’ve wanted to explore for some time. What interested me wasn’t simply the criminal side of the business, although there’s plenty of that in the book. It was the way addiction can affect people who would never have imagined themselves becoming involved with drugs.

Daniel Broome, one of the central characters, is a former soldier who suffers a serious injury while working on the docks. He’s prescribed painkillers, becomes dependent on them and gradually loses almost everything he has.

His daughter gets caught up in the same world.

At the other end of the business are people who make extraordinary amounts of money from that suffering, including some who occupy positions of considerable respectability.

I wanted to explore the connections between those two worlds, and Milton seemed like the perfect character to do it.

Of course, DOPE is still very much a John Milton action thriller. There’s plenty of violence, some thoroughly unpleasant villains and a developing threat to Milton himself that becomes increasingly important as the story progresses.

But I hope there’s also something to think about once you’ve finished it.

And, as I’ve mentioned before, the ending leads directly into the next book.

🐆🐕 The fastest land animal has a surprisingly soft spot for man's best friend.

In 1976, conservation biologist Laurie Marker was hand-raising a lonely cheetah cub named Khayam at Wildlife Safari in Oregon. With no other cubs to keep her company, Marker tried something unexpected. She introduced Khayam to Shesho, a Lab mix, and the two became fast friends.

It turned out that dogs could offer cheetahs something important: a sense of security. Naturally nervous animals, cheetahs can benefit from having a calm companion by their side, especially when they're raised in human care.

The idea caught on at zoos across the country. Today, pairs like Emmett and Cullen at the Columbus Zoo continue this unusual tradition. ❤️

Sometimes, the best friendships come with four very different paws. 🐾
