But “been doing the same thing for decades” describes 1/2 the industry. GTA, COD, RE, FF, Mario, Zelda, GoW, etc. all retain core DNA.

Execution is the problem.

MK8D launched as a complete retail game in 2017. Major DLC didn’t even arrive until 5 yrs later.

By this definition, nearly every game w/ patches is “live service.”
