#beh353@beh353 This is a great informative picture. There are plenty of misconceptions around food and its additives. When in reality, they arent as bad or even bad at all.
I get so sick of hearing the garbage that is spewed around food, eating, & health.
In the end, Fed is Best! Focus on eating a varied diet with fruits, vegetables, proteins, carbs, and everything in between.
Put a stop to food shaming and fear mongering food!
@ryleybeh353@beh353#beh353@beh353 Hey Ryley, very good point! Its also important to remember everyones' bodies are different and can respond differently to nutrition and exercise habits.
#beh353@beh353 As a future healthcare professional, I will use the knowledge obtained to better understand my patients. I will not hold preconceived notions about patients who are struggling with obesity. With a new found understanding of the various factors and causes of it.
@beh353#beh353 The article focuses on hydration of athletes in the warmer times of the season. I felt this was an important article with the marathon and summer fast approaching.
Nice to know that educating athletes about #hydration and cooling techniques in advance of competitions in extreme heat, such as at the Tokyo Olympics, can reduce heat-related medical incidents. https://t.co/46PRLN6Bim
@Leo_xhui@AniOurfalian@beh353@beh353#beh353 Hey Leo, my eating habits have also changed drasticly since leaving my parents' house. What do you wish you ate more or less of since moving out on your own?
@beh353#beh353@EmmaDArpinoRD Thank you for doing this Q&A. when you said "it is impossible to do everything perfect, and if you are, you're probably doing it at the expense of something else like our emotional or physical health" watching all aspects of our health is key!
#beh353@beh353
I would give this article to a child or parent that I am treating as a future healthcare professional. It exposes the dishonest practices of the soda industry and the researchers they pay off. The article links all scientific facts to the journal which found it.

This article is very interesting as it touches on exercise being an active player in the outcomes of our bodies. Mitochondria can dysfunction due to a sedentary lifestyle. It is important people understand the importance of staying active and healthy
"The normalization of a lack of physical activity in our modern society has led to the perception that exercise is an intervention. However...being sedentary has been the real intervention and collateral effect of modern societies."

Hey Emily, this is absolutely important to note! Many people revert to "tried and true" diets that have worked for them in the past. This article shows that a previous way might not work anymore depending on your age and the changes your body has undergone.
The outcomes of these experiments could be very useful for the rest of the world to implement something similar. A stipend to help households afford healthy foods. @beh353#beh353
@Leo_xhui@beh353 Hey Leo, this is a great plan, especially since plenty of children rely on school provided nutrition! Lets hope the schools dont gravitate to cheaper options over time to save money because tjat would result in lower quality food being provided. @beh353#beh353
#beh353@beh353 This week's continuation on obesity shed light on an interesting fact. 1/3-3/4 of people with obesity are metabolically healthy. I will use this information as a healthcare provider to not just view BMI or weight a main telling factor when treating patients.
@ryleybeh353@beh353#beh353@beh353
Hey Ryley, I also find it fascinating certain ages are more susceptible to obesity. Yet, it seems the data suggests that the entire population, regardless of age, is becoming more susceptible to obesity. It seems concrete steps in health need to be made asap!
This is a great thread that ties in nicely with what we are learning this week. Obesity is a bigger issue than people eating too much. There are social and genetic factors which can cause those affect to have had predispositions towards this affliction. #beh353@beh353
“Obesity is genetic”
If you were just triggered, then this thread is for you.
If “but the human genome can’t evolve in a generation!” has passed your lips in the past few months, then this thread is for you.
🧬This is why obesity is genetic. And the environment is to blame.
#beh353@beh353 This week's topic is obesity and understanding the complexities involved. An interesting fact I learned was that childhood obesity is directly linked to poverty. This makes sense as we have learned in class of the addictive additives in cheap processed foods.
#beh353@beh353 Cool and updated information on caffeine and its relationship with exercise. The most interesting fact is that birth control doubles the half life of caffeine, resulting in twice the amount of time needed for caffeine to be reduced womens' systems.
@EPhamnguyen@beh353#beh353@beh353
Hey Emily! There is so much social pressure to eat or drink to a similar quantity as your friends and family which can be difficult to stay strong against. Have you found any techniques or tricks to help you remain vigilant during these outings?
#beh353@beh353 The lack of self regulation to eat healthily is a barrier common to me. I exercise regularly and eat healthy, habitually. Yet, I get bored of eating healthy foods and miss junk foods. This causes me to binge eat whatever food I am craving. Like this from yesterday
@beh353#beh353
Interesting, however funding for this study came from the National Watermelon Promotional Board which, “operates with a single objective: to increase consumer demand for watermelon through promotion, research, and educational programs.” Further research required.

Hey Alexis, I was interested so I did some research and was appalled at the foods allowed in America that aren't elsewhere. foods containing Flame retardants, carcinogens, and even farm raised salmon since they are fed astaxanthin which gives salmon its color.
