A one-month-old girl in The Gambia has died after being subjected to FGM.
This is not culture or tradition — it is violence and a grave violation of human rights.
FGM kills an estimated 44,320 girls and young women every year — one every 12 minutes. In The Gambia, prevalence remains at 75–76%, with infants increasingly targeted to evade detection.
We demand justice for this child, full enforcement of the FGM ban, and global accountability for states failing to protect girls.
Silence makes more deaths inevitable. Action cannot wait!

Our morning session with @jumuiya and EALA members focused on the use of data in efforts to end FGM across the EAC region—rich with insights, lived experiences, and tough questions.
One key challenge? The way FGM data is presented.
We unpacked the limitations of relying on percentages alone. Low national figures can mask high-prevalence hotspots where girls remain at serious risk. Data must reflect realities on the ground.
As these dialogues continue, we’re asking:
1️⃣ How can FGM data better reflect community realities?
2️⃣ What role can local actors play in improving data accuracy?
3️⃣ How do we ensure data informs policy and targeted action?

We strongly condemn the derogatory remarks made by Trans Nzoia CEC Khatundi Phanice Naliaka, which mock FGM/C survivors and reinforce harmful stereotypes.FGM/C is a human rights violation, and survivors are not defined by it.we are leaders, professionals, mothers, and changemakers

Aoko is controversial, that's true.
You may not like her,
But remember, fighting for her is not personal,
It is a greater fight for justice in a country where people disappear and mysteriously turn up with body parts chopped up!
It is not about the person of Aoko, but the continuous clamour for justice and a safer country.
Join in! Let's find Aoko.
Where is Aoko?

After the CSO Network meeting on implementing the Prohibition Against FGM Act 2011, it’s clear we still have work to do! We must strengthen punishments for violators & increase fines. Young people must be part of the solution. 'Nothing about us, without us.' #EndFGM#YouthVoices
Glad to have joined the 2-day @CSONetworkKenya intensive discussion on the medicalization of FGM, review of the FGM prohibition Act and a step forward in strengthening of the network to advance the agenda of ending FGM.
