📣 Our New Logo – Institute for Peace and Military Ethics (IFME) 📣
With our new logo, the Institute for Peace and Military Ethics has adopted a visual identity that reflects the core themes of our work.
At its heart is the dove of peace. Peace is both our goal and our calling. Catholic tradition challenges us to seek, promote and preserve peace. At the same time, reality reminds us that peace cannot be taken for granted and may need to be defended against those who seek to undermine it.
Another key element of the logo is the oak leaf, familiar from military rank insignia. It represents the field of military ethics. While there may be circumstances in which the use of military force can be morally justified, force must never become an end in itself. It must always remain subject to ethical principles and directed towards the protection of peace.
At the centre of the logo, the distinctive interface between the Church and the military is also reflected – the very space in which our Institute operates. It is here that questions of faith, ethics and security responsibility come together.
We look forward to making the work of our Institute more visible through this new visual identity and to continuing the conversation on peace, responsibility and security.

I am deeply honoured and grateful to share that I have been inaugurated as the new Director of the Institute for Peace and Military Ethics (IFME).
I approach this role with humility, conscious of the challenges before us and grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside outstanding colleagues and partners.
The Institute for Peace and Military Ethics (IFME) enters an exciting new chapter as a think tank dedicated to supporting the Catholic Military Chaplaincy and the Bundeswehr. Our mission is to foster rigorous reflection and meaningful dialogue on the ethical, spiritual, and societal dimensions of security, military service, and peacebuilding.
The return of large-scale war to Europe has fundamentally changed the security landscape. Germany's Zeitenwende has rightly prompted renewed debate about deterrence, defense, resilience, and the responsibilities of democratic societies in safeguarding peace and freedom. These developments bring with them profound ethical questions: How can military force be exercised responsibly? What does ethical leadership require in times of crisis? How do we balance security, liberty, human dignity, and international responsibility in an increasingly uncertain world?
At the same time, rapid technological advances—including artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, cyber capabilities, and emerging digital technologies—are transforming the character of warfare and military decision-making. As these technologies become increasingly integrated into security and defense, they raise fundamental questions about human agency, accountability, responsibility, and the protection of human dignity.
IFME seeks to be a place where these challenges can be examined thoughtfully and constructively. By bringing together scholars, military practitioners, chaplains, policymakers, and technology experts, we aim to contribute to informed debate and ethical guidance at a moment when such reflection is urgently needed.
I look forward to working with our partners, engaging with diverse perspectives, and helping to strengthen ethical leadership, responsible innovation, and the pursuit of a just and lasting peace.
My sincere thanks to everyone who has placed their trust in me, especially the Catholic Military Bishop. I am excited for this new chapter and for the opportunity to help shape the future work of IFME.

I am glad to see that this special issue on the war frames in Eastern Europe and East Asia has just been published in the Sociological Review. It was a pleasure to be a part of this comparative project:

“You’re not just becoming disabled,” said Elle Seibert, 31, who has dealt with debilitating fatigue and cardiac symptoms since 2020. “You’re realizing how easily society at large and people in your life will abandon you when you cannot offer them things.” https://t.co/jVI9ruk1Re

Indeed,🎯, SARSCoV2/Omicron-descendants are significantly easier to catch than your seasonal influenza, based on transmissibility metrics and backed by real-world observations(e.g, CDC, WHO)! 👇#Mitigation
Woke up to the news that @MECFScomrade passed away. I’m so sorry for her, her family, and all her friends. I'm sorry for what she had to go through.
It’s devastating how someone can be so open about the help they need, and still not get it 😞💔

Long COVID in children is real, common, and still widely misunderstood. New pediatric studies show that kids and teens can experience lasting effects after infection, and reinfections significantly increase the risks.
Our latest WHN article breaks down what the science shows, why it matters, and how families and schools can protect children now.

Repeat infections do raise cumulative risk. Each infection adds another chance for post-acute symptoms to develop, which is why prevention, early treatment, and symptom monitoring remain so important. The goal is to reduce exposure and reduce risk, not normalize repeated infections as harmless.
A new RECOVER study of 6.4M health records shows Long COVID risk has not decreased from 2020–2024. Incidence stayed stable across variants, reinforcing Long COVID as an ongoing public health priority.

Paediatric patient came in with sore throat. While waiting for rapid Strep test to complete we glanced back at the Covid-19 RAT result: positive. Let that be a reminder that masking in health care makes sense, if you don’t want everyone in your waiting room and staff to get sick.
Repeated infections are causing long-term immune disruption — and the signs are already showing up across populations.
We break down the evidence, the context, and the urgent need for prevention in our latest piece.
