Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has stepped up efforts to establish new World Skill Centre (WSC) campuses in Brahmapur and Sambalpur, marking significant progress in implementing Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi's announcement in the 2026-27 State Budget. The Skill Development and Technical Education Department has initiated the land transfer process after identifying suitable sites for both campuses.

The expansion of the World Skill Centre network was announced in this year's Budget with the objective of taking world-class skill education beyond Bhubaneswar and providing students from southern and western Odisha access to internationally benchmarked training closer to their homes.

For the Brahmapur campus, the government has finalised a site at Laudigaon under Konisi Tahasil in Ganjam district. The department has authorised the Deputy Director of Skill Development and Employment, Brahmapur, to submit the land alienation proposal before the competent revenue authorities, paving the way for transfer of the land to the Skill Development and Technical Education Department for development of the project.

Before finalising the location, a World Skill Centre team inspected two proposed sites at Laudigaon and Sitalapalli. Laudigaon was selected owing to the availability of nearly 40 acres of land, its proximity to the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Brahmapur, and its strategic location near the coast, which is expected to support future programmes in Marine Engineering and Hospitality.

For the Sambalpur campus, the department has identified 15 acres of land at Badsinghari under Sadar Tahasil. As the land is presently recorded in the name of the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department, the Sambalpur Collector has been requested to initiate its transfer to the Skill Development and Technical Education Department. The Deputy Director of Skill Development and Employment, Sambalpur, has also been authorised to file the required land alienation proposal.

With land identification completed and the transfer process underway, the state government has taken a major step towards establishing two new World Skill Centre campuses. Once operational, the facilities are expected to strengthen Odisha's skill development ecosystem by offering industry-oriented, globally benchmarked training programmes to students from southern and western Odisha.
