Goodnight to everyone sleeping downstairs on the sofa because your elderly dog cannot get upstairs anymore and needs you. I’m so lucky to be trusted with something this precious. ❤️
@Keir_Starmer You brought these hell raisers into our midst. Just look at all the tax payer money spent housing people in hotels. You're a lawyer. You should be using your skills to find legal solutions to all these problems.
I'm genuinely worried that there isn't a plan for growth. Minimum wage increases just put further pressure on businesses. You stop hiring and stop investing, not because you don't want to, but because you can't, when such a large proportion of revenue immediately disappears into fixed employment costs, tax and overhead before you've even had the chance to grow.
I was lost when you brought in the NI increase for employers. It genuinely is a tax on jobs, to coin a phrase. Then it was spun as though company owners are somehow not working people.
It feels like there is a real misunderstanding of how small businesses actually work. Most are not giant corporations sitting on mountains of cash. They are ordinary people taking risks, employing staff, paying wages, training people, covering sick pay, worrying about payroll every month and trying to keep everything moving. Small companies are not separate from working people.
The countries that work best usually mix pro business policies, controlled immigration, infrastructure investment and strong skills and training. You do not create prosperity while productivity, housing and energy costs remain broken. If wages rise faster than productivity, prices rise too, and employers stop hiring. A digital ID is an admin system, not an economic growth strategy. Please can someone explain that to Labour.
