@AntiRaids Hey guys, I have so little information to give but have reason to believe I witnessed a raid on a flat on the Highbury Quadrant estate this evening
Governments have to step in and introduce measures that ensure that the sustainable, circular, conscious choices become the ones that are accessible to all.
Thoughts for later that I’m choosing to put here for now, the result of the @feministintrnet reading group and listening to @orsoladecastro. Why I think industry regulation (tech, fashion, food etc) is essential for an intersectional fight against the climate crisis...
The question is not, “How do we make the single mother of four who currently buys from fast fashion brands care about the climate crisis?” She probably does. But she probably can’t choose differently. And if she doesn’t, why should she have to?
Our individual contributions to reducing waste, carbon footprint, choosing products that pay workers fair wages and have responsible manufacturing processes etc, are exactly that — individual; dependent on beliefs, priorities, circumstances, PRIVILEGE
From e-waste, to planned obsolescence - the more immediately ‘physical’ implications of irresponsible tech practices - to the growing carbon footprint of internet usage - driven up by the economy of data -, this is surely the MOST pressing issue for Internet Governance
Yesterday, the @feministintrnet presented “Designing an Ecological Alexa” at the UN Internet Governance Forum for their session “Internet Futures and the Climate Crisis - Paths to Sustainability or Extinction?” It can be viewed in English here: https://t.co/hRIvhVBBIh
Yet there is little public knowledge about the massive impact of internet connected technologies. Even at the IGF - where this was the very first session on climate change in its history - delegates questioned whether this was even an Internet Governance Issue
Designing an Ecological Alexa is a project created by Feminist Internet, and supported by @ual_cci. We were invited by @ImpaktFestival and @hauntedmachines to run a 1-day workshop to try and uncover the enormous environmental impact of technologies.
