If those service members are medically retired before reaching 20 years of service,
they WILL lose their military retirement pensions. That is the law right now. And the fix already exists. It is called the Major Richard Star Act.

But when the Senate had the chance to move forward:
Sen Roger Wicker blocked it.
Sen Ron Johnson blocked it.

Because they said it was “too expensive.”Too expensive to honor the retirement these troops earned through combat.
Too expensive to keep the promise made to the men and women sent into war.

Meanwhile Washington somehow finds money for everything else.
$18M to keep their sexual misdeeds covered up.

If a soldier loses a limb in combat and is medically forced out before 20 years, the government takes their retirement pay away.
That is the reality facing 54,000 combat injured veterans. And now it could include the 18 troops just wounded.

America sends them to fight.
Washington debates whether their pensions are affordable.

I am deeply concerned that veterans are being misled regarding the Major Richard Star Act, first introduced in the 117th Congress .

This bill has been widely described as one of the most bipartisan pieces of legislation in recent years. Yet, despite bipartisan support and multiple opportunities when each party held the majority, it has not been brought forward for a meaningful vote.

In the past, Senate Armed Services Committee leadership blocked unanimous consent, and more recently, Senator Ron Johnson has taken similar action. These developments raise serious questions about the sincerity of congressional support for this legislation.

If both parties support this bill, why has there been:
• No roll call vote
• No formal hearing
• No updated and accurate CBO cost estimate
• No serious effort to advance it to passage

Every major Veterans Service Organization supports this bill. Yet Congress continues to delay.

My confidence in Congress is fading.

Veterans are being offered hollow promises and carefully worded statements instead of action. Using the approximately 50,000 affected veterans as political leverage is unacceptable. It represents a failure to honor our nation’s commitment to care for those injured in its service.

Veterans deserve results — not rhetoric.
