@JamieBrysonLLB Jamie, read the room. Somehow, you’ve attained a disproportionate amount of power within Unionism, yet at some point, you’ve alienated every shade of it. You’re divisive, strategically inept, and a huge liability for our future. Your track record is appalling. Your time is up.
@JamieBrysonLLB He’s just called 500,000 people in the north “ a hate filled mob, thugs and terrorists”
How can any moderates stand with him over this?
It’s a pre cursor to start shooting catholics again - it’s blatant.
The law and what's right aren’t always the same thing.
Peaceful protest is how ordinary people defend themselves when every institution has failed them. That's what’s happening on the Garvaghy Road, and no threat of arrest changes it.
I want to commend the courage of those from a Protestant background who have come out in support of the rights of the people of Garvaghy Road.
A huge and growing number of people from Protestant backgrounds are now signing a letter calling for no Orange march to be forced down the Garvaghy Road.
Support for the residents of Garvaghy Road is growing across Ireland and internationally.
28 years of peace on the Garvaghy Road needs protected.
There can be no going back.
Jesus Moore, you’ve developed quite an obsession with the “rule of law” now that it suits your argument, I have to call you out on your comments and replies here
During loyalist unrest and unnotified protests, your language was rather different, you 100% all over the right to protest and explained that a political “vacuum” meant the loyalist grassroots were “taking action.”
And that isn’t the only inconsistency. You appear to support protest when it is carried out by people from your own community, but condemn it when nationalists use the same democratic rights. You invoke legality when challenging nationalist voices yet seem far less interested in it when loyalist disorder, intimidation or unlawful parades are involved. You demand that elected representatives respect legal processes, while defending political pressure and street mobilisation when they advance your preferred cause.
You have also been quick to condemn nationalist representatives for standing alongside communities during contentious disputes, while treating loyalist politicians’ engagement with protesters, parade organisers and street movements as legitimate political advocacy. When loyalists block roads, threaten disruption or mobilise against political decisions, you frame it as frustration that must be understood, I can find quotes you had made in the past if ye want? When nationalists protest or challenge an arrangement through lawful democratic means, you frame it as defiance of the law.
You cannot demand that one community accept every ruling without question while excusing the other community’s refusal to accept decisions it dislikes. Nor can you condemn “political interference” when nationalists speak out, then defend political pressure when it comes from loyalist representatives.
The rule of law isn’t a slogan you dust off when nationalists exercise rights you dislike. It applies equally to loyalists, republicans, politicians, protesters and everyone else.
And elected representatives standing with residents does not give them the power to “dictate” anyone’s legal rights. Those rights, and their lawful limits, are determined through the relevant legal and statutory processes.
If you genuinely believe in the rule of law, Moore, defend it consistently.
Otherwise, what you’re defending isn’t the rule of law at all,’it’s the rule of law when it’s in the loyalist community
Happening tomorrow: solidarity rally outside the NYC British Consulate (885 2nd Avenue) in support of the residents of the Garvaghy Road.
Sponsored by the Connolly Association of New York and the Irish American Network. Be there!
This is a consequential moment on the island of Ireland.
The Orange Order parade represents a return to the divisions of the past. After 28 years of progress thanks to the Good Friday Agreement, we have come too far to turn back now.
Today, I joined my colleagues in the Congressional Friends of Ireland Caucus in writing to the British Secretary of State Bryant, calling on the Government of the United Kingdom to cancel the Orange Order parade on Garvaghy Road.
BREAKING - VERY SIGNIFICANT STATEMENT ISSUED TONIGHT.
🚨 Open letter from people of Protestant backgrounds concerning the Garvaghy Road.
🚨 They are effectively calling on the Orange Order to see the bigger picture and to bring to an end the Drumcree Parade.
